This gated Florida community in Vero Beach is one of the most diverse we've seen situated between the barrier island and Indian River. The Moorings offers spacious Vero Beach luxury homes and condominiums on deepwater finger islands connected to the Intracoastal Waterway and Indian River Lagoon. Dolphin, manatee, and birdlife are common sightings along the expansive waterway dotted with secluded islands.

Buyers searching for riverfront homes or condominiums at The Moorings have the option of private boat docks along 7.5 miles of Indian River Lagoon frontage. Whether you head north or south by boat in one of the top Florida retirement cities, you'll find the Fort Pierce Inlet is the closest, approximately 9 miles to the south. The Sebastian Inlet is located 19 miles to the north. The more adventurous types can reach the northeastern tip of the Bahamas which is approximately 100 miles from the Fort Pierce Inlet.

The Moorings golf course is a beautiful, easy to play, executive-style golf course designed by Pete Dye. It borders the Indian River Lagoon and ends at the community's impressive 58,000 square foot golf clubhouse. The new clubhouse has spacious verandas on the second floor overlooking the scenic Indian River where we saw residents relaxing and socializing. The Moorings clubhouse is home to a golf pro shop, a heated resort-style swimming pool, poolside grill, fine dining in the club restaurant, and a library. Adjacent to the clubhouse is the community's 6,500-square-foot fitness center.

In addition to boating, golf, and fitness, The Moorings tennis facility has nine Fast-Dry courts, a tennis shop, and a very active, year-round tennis program.  The Yacht Club is the community's largest social club. Membership is inexpensive at about $200 a year plus the $180 initiation fee. Events include a monthly Destination Cruise, On Deck Happy Hour, Captain's Coffee Hour, and seasonal themed events. This friendly gated community Florida hosts visiting yacht clubs at their community docks. Established in the late 1970's, The Moorings is meticulously maintained and beautifully landscaped with lush tropical palm trees. We enjoyed sitting on the veranda and watching the sunset views from the clubhouse.

Deepwater homes with private boat dockage at The Moorings are available along the Indian River Lagoon. The Moorings also offers low maintenance deepwater condominiums.  The 17th Street Causeway is the connecting bridge to the mainland and is only 4 miles to the north. Of the 1,150 homes here, approximately 300 are single-family homes and 850 are condominiums spread across 535 acres. Single-family homes for sale at The Moorings are priced from $380k to over $4 million. Condominiums begin in the high $100k's. Beachland Elementary School, Rosewood Magnet School, Osceola Magnet School, Vero Beach High School, and Saint Edward's School are the closest best schools.
