Award winning Dataw Island is a beautiful gated Beaufort SC neighborhood. Two golf courses, a full-service marina, outstanding tennis and thriving social clubs are just a few of the well rounded lifestyle activities you will find at Dataw Island, a South Carolina coastal golf community on the Sea Islands of Beaufort. Located between Savannah Georgia and Charleston South Carolina, Dataw Island is located in one of the Happiest Seaside Towns. Is it the great weather year round to play golf, the friendliness of the people or the low cost of living in Beaufort South Carolina which draws Baby Boomers to the Sea Islands? Whichever it is, families and retirees alike can't resist the high quality of life found in the area. Beaufort South Carolina has been named on the list of the Best Small Towns in South Carolina rich with culture, live entertainment and street festivals. Located on the southern end of the coast, kayaking, fishing and paddle boarding are common water sports.

Dataw Island is located on a barrier island, just east of downtown Beaufort and west of Hunting Island State Park. This gated South Carolina coastal golf community is home to two golf courses; one designed by Tom Fazio - The Cotton Dike and the other Arthur Hills Morgan River Signature Course. Both golf courses were currently going through a $5.4 million renovation, staggered one at a time. The Cotton Dike course renovation was completed in May 2012. Dataw Island has an elegant golf clubhouse and a community center for social events. The 25,000 square foot golf clubhouse overlooks salt water marshes where you can easily see bottlenose dolphin frolicking on the surface searching for fish. The newly renovated clubhouse is the setting for fine and casual dining, a bar and fireplace, a grand ballroom and an open outdoor veranda overlooking the course. The golf clubhouse brings is clearly the hub of the community. In fact, more than 30 social clubs are actively involved at Dataw Island Club including the Island Friends. There are approximately 19 groups of nine people who meet monthly and then they groups are rotated around the next year so everyone has a chance to meet new friends. Many of the social clubs are focused on charities and serving this Beaufort SC neighborhood.

Adjacent to the golf clubhouse is the Tennis Center with 8 Har-Tru tennis courts, a tennis shop, tennis instruction and a resort-style swimming pool overlooking the marsh to cool off. Nearby, the 16,000 square foot Dataw Island Community Center is home to an indoor swimming pool, fitness room, massage room, aerobics studio and much much more. A variety of classes take place at Community Center such as dance, art and fitness. The island has two championship-caliber lawn croquet courts too, an old age sporting trend coming back into favor. Retiree's searching for Low Country real estate will appreciate that Dataw Island is golf cart friendly. Property owner's are required to become members of the Dataw Island Club.

Property owner's who have boat can utilize Dataw's full-service deepwater marina with community boat slips and yacht club. Yachts, sailboats and speed boats share the deepwater marina space. Sweetgrass is the community's seafood restaurant overlooking the marina. Boater's can quickly navigate to the Intracoastal Waterway about 3 miles away and can head offshore to the Atlantic Ocean, about 30 minutes from Dataw Island. Just down the road is Hunting Island State Park, home to one of the most beautiful beaches in South Carolina. 

This Beaufort SC neighborhood has 800 homes built to date of the 1,000 planned at Dataw Island. A handfull of lots for sale at Dataw Island are still available under $50K, patio homes for sale under $200k and cottage homes for sale at Dataw Island begin in the mid $400k's. Dataw Island approved builders include Island Residential Construction (IRC Homes) and Majestic Estate Builders, both Energy Star green builders.  In particular, we see re-sale patio homes as great value, maybe for second home to start. The island has incredible curb appeal, Low Country homes painted soft pastel colors canopied by mature live oak trees.

The South Carolina coastal community of Dataw Island was substantially completed in 2007 becoming its own independent island. 80% of the homes are built. Members approved a $5.4 million golf course renovation and construction began in 2011. The Tom Fazio Cotton Dike golf course is under renovation and the Arthur Hills Morgan Signature Course renovation is scheduled for 2012.

Dataw Island Club members are being assessed an additional $115 a month until the loan debt for the renovations has been paid off. Dataw Island Club requires all property owners pay an additional Home Owners Association Assessment of $1,813 per year for road maintenance, security, lighting and common docks.
