River Dunes Oriental NC - Hearts of Gold

Oriental NC River Dunes
Published on September 19, 2011

Just weeks after the eye of Hurricane Irene passed over Oriental NC, the unshaken Inner Banks marina community River Dunes welcomed 2,400 bicyclists on Sept 11th for a Lunch Stop at The Harbor Club during the Bike MS - Historic New Bern Ride. Bike MS is a two day cycling event throughout the coastal region of North Carolina raising funds for research and programs to support multiple sclerosis. Cyclists had the choice of several long distance rides in the coastal region of North Carolina with one of the stops at River Dunes. The friendly residents of River Dunes greeted cyclists on Sept 11th, serving the riders lunch and cheered them on as they departed.

This was not the first time this Inner Banks marina community has supported the local community of Oriental NC. With hearts of gold, residents of River Dunes sponsor a number of annual fundraising events for the local community of Oriental NC. Art by The Harbor, The Leukemia Cup Regatta, Toys for Pamlico Tots and a plethora of educational events, to name of few. We're impressed by this small North Carolina coastal community's big heart and public display of compassion. If you’re wondering what is a social club? River Dunes is a classic example of what social clubs can accomplish when residents come together with their compassionate hearts of gold.

Many times buyers are told by real estate sales people that “bigger communities are better by having more social clubs.” From what we see in scoring the best master planned communities in the Southeast, charming smaller River Dunes delivers a big social bang for the buck in addition to their completed amenities. Oriental NC is where River Dunes is located and is nicknamed the sailing capital of North Carolina because sailboats outnumber people 3 to 1. Located on the second largest protected sound on the east coast of the United States, boaters traveling the Intracoastal Waterway corridor often permanently relocate to Oriental NC once they discover the ideal sailing conditions found on the Pamlico Sound. The coastal region is becoming known as a hot spot for folks searching where to retire in North Carolina. Big city folks can quickly slow down their frantic pace after discovering the nautical city of Oriental NC and this Inner Banks marina community.

When city folks need a big city fix, the city of New Bern is located just 30 minutes to the south. New Bern NC is located where the Neuse River meets the Pamlico Sound. In New Bern NC, Royal Governor William Tryon built Tryon Palace in 1770 which served as the first permanent capitol of North Carolina and home to the Tryon family. Tryon Palace attracts thousands of visitors year round to view the colorful palace gardens or attend annual festivals. New Bern NC is one of our favorite historic cities on the waterfront of the coastal region of North Carolina. We enjoy smelling the salt air while walking downtown exploring the art galleries, photographing architectural churches and historic sites such as the birthplace of Pepsi-Cola. We have a tough time choosing where to dine in New Bern NC from the long list of highly rated restaurants on Yelp.
