Compass Pointe Veterans Club Partners to Help Disable Veterans

Published on November 9, 2016

On Saturday evening, the Compass Pointe Veterans Club held an ‘Elvis Extravaganza’ fundraiser concert to support Canines for Veterans, a sub-entity of Canines for Service, Inc. (CFS). This was the second largest fundraising event hosted by the Veterans Club this year. In May, the club raised over $40,000 during an annual Memorial Day golf tournament and community celebration for the Chapter 11 Disabled American Veterans.

At the Compass Pointe event there were over 300 people in attendance, including CFS co-founder, Rick Hairston, and his wife, Pat. The couple was accompanied by two service dogs, Shadrach and Jordan, who were used to demonstrate how canine companions can improve the lives of veterans with needs. “One of the greatest gifts is serving others. As a person who uses a service dog myself, I understand the need for these incredible animals, and the gift they are to the people we serve,” stated Hairston.

The event and musical performances were coordinated by musician Joe Posilico, with help by the Compass Pointe Realty, LLC Sales Team and the Compass Pointe Veterans Club. Posilico, a community resident, also served as the opening act alongside his New York based band Killer Joe and the Lido Soul Revue. The main act of the evening was King Kai and the Creoles, an internationally recognized and award-winning Elvis tribute show. This was a sold out show with ticket sales amounting to more than $4,500. All ticket proceeds were donated in contribution to the adoption of a service dog by CFS.

Ed Hulser, founding member of the Compass Pointe Veterans Club, expressed gratitude and recognized the event as a great success due to an incredible team effort. “Through our efforts we hope to provide a veteran with a service dog,”

The Compass Pointe Veterans Club will continue to support veterans in need within the greater Wilmington area with plans for multiple charitable events in 2017.
