The first amenities to be built in the 1960's were the lodge-style clubhouse which set the tone of Bavarian architecture. Many are the earlier mountain vacation homes. At the base of the clubhouse is a green carpet-like valley bordered by creeks leading your eye up to the mountain ridge adorned with massive rock formations. Winding through the heart of the community is a beautiful course designed by George Cobb in 1964. The golf course was named Top 100 Tar-Heel Golf Courses for 6 years in a row by Business North Carolina. One of the area's best golf course communities, Hound Ears is open for play from April to October. Membership to the club requires a $30k equity membership fee and dues are approximately $6,200 per year.

In the early stages of development, Hound Ears was home to one of the first ski slopes in the Southeast. Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain became more popular years later and is when the Hound Ears ski slope was closed adding more buildable land to the neighborhood. The Hound Ears Lodge was subsequently closed in 2005 when member-owners decided to demolish the guest lodging building. The main clubhouse does has beautiful overnight lodging for six guests on the second floor.

Amenities include an outdoor heated swimming pool with a cascading waterfall into the pool, six clay tennis courts, a staffed fitness center with a personal trainer and on call massage therapist. Use of amenities are permitted with a private membership. Property owners at Hound Ears are not required to become golf club equity members. Approximately 440 Hound Ears homes have been built to date at the Blowing Rock NC real estate development. Mountain vacation homes, golf course homes and lots are available to purchase. Approximately 75% of the property owners at Hound Ears are club members and a large percentage of them have been members for decades. Golf tournaments, tennis matches and social events at the clubhouse are easy ways to make new friends and quickly get plugged into this friendly neighborhood, important attributes in North Carolina mountain communities.

Buyer's searching for Boone real estate in great school districts will find Valle Crucis Elementary, Hardin Park Elementary and Watauga High School the closest best schools to Hound Ears. Hound Ears Reviews

"Its not the happiest place to live in and here is why: I have lived in Hound Ears for 22 years and the amenities and service is low budget. If you want the facts call me. I will show you 20 boxes of litigation that Hound Ears put us through. Do yourself a favor and stay away. This is the furthest place representative of a country club. Sure the golf course is pretty but it takes more than a pretty course to make a country club. It takes impeccable service with white glove treatment to those who patronize it. You'll have to experience a REAL country club and determine what I'm describing and discern for yourself. My husband and I were most disillusioned with hound ears management and the service; that we put ourselves on a waiting to resign list. When we found out that the club can (double deal) sell their own additional memberships from abandoned memberships at a rate of "2 club inventory" : "1 waiting to resign list"...we realized that whatever our place was on the waiting to resign list the reality was we were twice whatever that number was. Then we studied the bylaws and realized the only way out with repatriation for our equity stake was to demand expulsion. Ultimately we succeeded and got ourselves expelled and received our equity stake back at the ratio of 80% of the then current rate $60,000.00. It's a matter of economics, we paid $42,000.00 for a membership we got refunded $48,000.00. A profit, not a feat that happens often, if at all in the history of club equity refunds! I doubt the club will be able to respond to this post since any response reveals their true mean spirited nature. They should add the word "not" to their motto. This place is nothing like it was in 1964 or even when our benevolent Uncle Ed owned it; trust me. I knew it then and I know it now."
