Dataw Island is a 870 acre established Beaufort SC real estate development situated on its own private island. Two recently refurbished golf courses, a full-service deepwater marina, outstanding tennis, croquet and thriving social clubs are just a few of the activities found at one of the finest coastal retirement communities on the Sea Islands South Carolina.

Tucked between Savannah Georgia and Charleston South Carolina, Dataw Island is located in Beaufort, one of America's Happiest Seaside Towns. Is it the great weather year round to play golf, the friendliness of the people or the low cost of living which draws Baby Boomers to the Lowcountry? Whichever it is, families and retirees alike can't resist the high quality of life found in the area. Beaufort South Carolina is repeatedly named on the list of the Best Small Towns in South Carolina rich with culture, live entertainment and street festivals. Kayaking, fishing and paddle boarding are common water sports to see in the rivers. Just down the road is Hunting Island State Park, home to one of the most beautiful beaches in South Carolina. 

The Beaufort SC real estate development is home to two golf courses; one designed by Tom Fazio - The Cotton Dike and the other Morgan River Signature Course designed by Arthur Hills. Both golf courses went through a $5.4 million renovation in 2012. Dataw Island has an elegant golf clubhouse and a community center geared around fitness and fun. The 40,000 square foot golf clubhouse overlooks salt water marshes where it's common to see bottlenose dolphin frolicking searching for fish on the Sea Islands South Carolina. The newly renovated clubhouse is the setting for fine and casual dining. A bar and fireplace, a grand ballroom and an open outdoor veranda overlook the course and Jenkins Creek. The clubhouse is clearly the hub of the community. In fact, more than 20 social clubs are actively involved at Dataw Island Club including the Island Friends. There are approximately 19 groups of nine people who meet monthly and then the groups are rotated around the next year so everyone has a chance to meet someone new. Many of the social clubs are focused on charities serving the local coastal retirement communities.

Adjacent to the golf clubhouse is the Tennis Center with 8 Har-Tru tennis courts, a tennis shop, tennis instruction and a resort-style swimming pool overlooking the marsh to cool off. Nearby, the 16,000 square foot Dataw Island Community Center is home to an indoor swimming pool, fitness room, massage room, aerobics studio and much much more. A variety of classes take place at Community Center such as dance, art and fitness. The island has two championship-caliber lawn croquet courts too, an old age sporting trend coming back into favor. Retiree's searching for Beaufort SC real estate will appreciate that Dataw Island is golf cart friendly making it easy to get around without a car. Property owner's are required to become members of the Dataw Island Club. Initation fees are $17,500. POA fees are $2,391 per year.

Property owners who have a boat can utilize Dataw's privately owned full-service deepwater marina. Yachts, sailboats and speed boats share the deepwater marina space. There are 83 wet boat slips, 300 dry stacks, a 50 ton boat lift and 20,000 lb forklift. Diesel fuel, pump out and showers are available. The marina does permit live aboards. Boaters can quickly navigate to the Intracoastal Waterway which is 3 miles away and head offshore to the Atlantic Ocean, about 30 minutes from Dataw Island and the Sea Islands South Carolina.

The gated community has approximately 800 homes built to date of the 1,000 planned. A handful of lots for sale are still available under $50k, patio homes under $200K and cottage homes for sale at Dataw Island begin in the mid $400K's. Dataw Island approved builders include Island Residential Construction (IRC Homes) and Majestic Estate Builders. The majority of the residents in this Low Country real estate development are second home owners and retirees. For families interested in Dataw Island, Coosa Point Elementary, Beaufort Middle School, Beaufort High School, and Beaufort Academy are the closest best schools.
