One of the finest views you will find of the Great Smoky Mountains is seen from Rarity Bay on Tellico Lake. Add to the list of community attributes: championship golf, tennis, equestrian, swimming pool, fine dining and even Fido has his own doggie park at this gated Eastern Tennessee golf community. Located in the foothills of Eastern Tennessee, this 960 acre gated community is surrounded by 10 miles of shoreline on 16,000 acre Tellico Lake. Buyer's searching lakefront Loudon real estate will find many of the homes at Rarity Bay have private boat docks. Tellico Lake is the least polluted federally protected Eastern Tennessee lake in the United States and the lake level only fluctuates six feet in depth during the winter months.

Tellico Lake was named Best Eastern Tennessee Lake by Boating Life Magazine. Winters are mild and summers cooled by the breezes rolling off the Great Smoky Mountains. 75% of the land around Tellico Lake is undeveloped and protected preserving its natural beauty. Reasonably close to Knoxville, big city modern conveniences are not far from Rarity Bay. Most important to Baby Boomers, headline entertainment, lifelong learning opportunities, brand name shopping and award winning medical care are all in nearby Knoxville Tennessee.

More than 50 social clubs are active at Rarity Bay providing residents plenty of opportunities to meet new friends and socialize; social clubs such as Dinner for Eight and the Rarity Bay Women's Club. Despite Rarity Communities' hard times, there is a bond among the members at this gated Eastern Tennessee golf community, sticking together as one through the economic recession and Rarity's bad press from Rarity's sister communities hardships.

The 18 hole golf course at Rarity Bay was designed by D.J. VeVictor and Peter Langham and has gentle rolling hills, stellar mountain views and interesting elevation fluctations on the course. Golf, tennis, fitness, a swimming pool and miles of hiking trails are inside the gates of Rarity Bay providing activities for residents to stay fit and enjoy life. Rarity Bay is also has an equestrian center providing boarding, horse pastures and trail rides to club members. Horse camps, barrel races and horse shows take place throughout the year.

There is no need to leave Rarity Bay, whether you choose to live at this gated Eastern Tennessee golf community year round or as a second home. When the sun begins to set, make your way over to the Rarity Bay Clubhouse for a delicious dining experience. We had the pleasure of dining at the club and tasting their smoked Prime Rib which was excellent. Prices at the Rarity Bay golf club are reasonable for lunch and dinner.

Rarity Bay is a gated master planned community located on one of the most beautiful Eastern Tennessee lakes. 1,600 homes are planned with approximately 450 homes built to date. Lots for sale are available in the $30k's, Rarity Bay condos for sale can be found in the mid $100k's, villas in the mid $300k's and single family homes for sale at Rarity Bay start in the mid $500k's. There are plenty of home choices at this Eastern Tennessee lake community, if you're searching for lakefront Loudon real estate. Rarity Bay approved builders include Greystone Construction, Heartwood Homes and Providence Builders, all Energy Star green builders.

Property Owner Reviews

We are "blessed" each and every day to be a part of this wonderful and welcoming community. Residents can attest to my favorite description that "we may not be Tennesseeans by birth, but we ARE Tennesseeans by CHOICE----"we are Rarity Bay". The geographical beauty is astounding and abundant and the close knit community is one we have never found in previous communities! We have all we could ask for here in the best kept secret in TN---it is truly the "Lakeway to the Smokies". You have to LIVE it to believe it.

When first visiting the area 13 years ago, we fell in love with Rarity Bay even after visiting several other developments in the area. There was no comparison to the quality of homes, views of lake and mountains and friendliness of the residents of rarity Bay. We bought our lot in 2000, built upon retirement in 2005 and have been extremely happy that we live here. The golf course is very enjoyable to our members as well as visitors who have been very complimentary on its beauty and condition. Golf fees are very competitive in this area. Tennis, pickle ball, swimming, boating and equestrian activities are very popular as are events at our Activities Center. The best, however, is the welcoming of neighbors to their homes for dinners, cards, and other games. Our "Yacht Club"/boating club is very active with several events per month.

Developer Credibility

Real estate developer Michael Ross has been a celebrity in the press, however, not the kind he would want to be, I'm sure. Rarity Communities had nine golf and lake real estate developments planned in Eastern Tennessee. With financing frozen and sales almost non-existent in 2008 and 2009, Rarity Communities were plagued by bad timing, sales to investors/flippers and unrealistic optimism.

All nine Rarity Communities have either gone bankrupt or have pending foreclosures filed against them. Rarity Bay and Rarity Pointe are still operational. To ease your mind, please consult with an attorney before purchasing at Rarity Bay. Despite these issues, sales have not stopped at this beautiful Eastern Tennessee golf community.
