Tellico Lake was named 'Best Eastern Tennessee Lake' by Boating Life Magazine. We chose Rarity Bay on Tellico Lake as our home because it is an incredible place to live, offering breath-taking water and mountain views on a large, pristine lake offering wonderful four seasons and endless boating excitement as well as access to the Gulf. The golf course is challenging, yet offers an enjoyable experience every time you play a round, year round. The Equestrian Center and surrounding riding trails and pastures offer a pleasing addition to the community. Plus Rarity Bay possesses all the other reasons to retire in East Tennessee: no income tax, low cost of daily living, low property taxes, great medical care and facilities, centrally located in the US with easy access. However, the primary reason for Rarity Bay being the happiest community to live is grounded in our community residents. These are the most caring, nurturing, friendly people you could ever want as your neighbors. Their origins are as geographically dispersed as are their professions and backgrounds. The long list of activities, clubs, associations, etc. are amazing and one can easily establish deep friendships while enjoying a vast assortment of hobbies, etc. This is a community that truly cares about the welfare of each and every one of our residents and their extended families. We feel truly blessed to live in a community where our "neighbors" aren't just the ones next door or across the street. We could not have picked a better place to retire for all the reasons you may list. We really mean it when we say, "Waking up each morning in Rarity Bay on Tellico Lake is just another day in paradise."

Two things stand out here. The first is the quality of the people. From our personal experience, this place is full of people that you want to spend time with, and there are more than ample activities to give you that opportunity. The second feature is the property. We think it is the best piece of property in the region: on Lake Tellico which is lowered a minimal amount by TVA each year and that preserves the beauty of the property, a fine and picturesque golf course and equestrian center on the grounds, and mountain views from many, many sites on the property.

When you drive through Rarity Bay and then drive the "others" it is easy to see why I chose to live here and have for almost 15 years now. We are a unique collection of mostly "over 55 folks", though not age-restricted by deed. Most have had successful careers at high levels of accomplishment. So there is a homogeneity that is unusual in a community of our size (400 plus homes now, 1100 pus at build-out). This is reflected in broad participation in governance, committees, clubs, outside volunteerism, and social interaction. The sense of family that exists here is unmatched in any other community in which we have lived. We care for each other, and we support each other in the most meaningful way. When you add to this sense of community the beauty of a lakeside venue in close view of the Smoky Mountains, The boating and water sports, golf, tennis, and country club membership, we believe this is the happiest community by far.

Rarity Communities had nine golf and lake real estate developments planned in Eastern Tennessee. With financing frozen and sales almost non-existent in 2008 and 2009, Rarity Communities were plagued by bad timing, sales to investors/flippers and unrealistic optimism.

All nine Rarity Communities have either gone bankrupt or have pending foreclosures filed against them. Rarity Bay and Rarity Pointe are still operational. To ease your mind, please consult with an attorney before purchasing at Rarity Bay. Despite these issues, sales have not stopped at this beautiful Eastern Tennessee golf community.
