Grab your dancing partner. The festival season is here in the North Carolina mountain communities. On September 2nd and 3rd, the 46th Annual Smoky Mountain Folk Festival takes place at Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center. Traditional music, dance, crafts, food and fun are on tap for the two-day event that spotlights the best of the Southern Appalachian Region.

Residents and visitors alike consider this popular culture event as one of their favorite things to do in Waynesville NC. What makes this mountain music festival such a hit among the community at large is that it features the area’s best fiddlers, banjo players, string bands, ballad singers, square dance teams, bagpipers, spoon players and lots of other folk ensemble groups and much more.

The Annual Smoky Mountain Folk Festival is also rich in tradition. Dating back to 1970, the mountain music festival is one of the top choices of things to do in Waynesville NC. It preserves mountain traditions that are past down from generation to generation. It’s not uncommon to see North Carolina mountain communities relishing in the first time they attended the festival, all while sharing the tradition with their children and grandchildren. In addition to community activities, North Carolina mountain communities also offer an atmosphere inviting to baby boomer and families. Take for instance the charming small town of Waynesville. Cozily nestled between the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains, it is home to some of the most spectacular views of nature, which is one of the reasons why Waynesville NC real estate is so popular. People long to live close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and in a place where people are super friendly.

Downtown Waynesville is where all the townsfolk gather 7 days a week. From fine shops to cafes and restaurants, Main Street is a must do. It’s also a good place to take in some historic sights or head over to the nearby beach to soak in the sun. Aside from parades and festivals there’s also a thriving arts and cultural community. Visitors and residents rave about the productions at the Haywood Arts Regional Theater.

The small-town atmosphere and southern hospitality makes Waynesville NC real estate so attractive. The beautiful gated community of Sunset Falls at Bald Creek is one of the highly sought after North Carolina mountain communities locateed in Waynesville. The 300-acre mountainside gated community is surrounded by beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Here residents are not saddled with expensive club memberships. Sunset Falls at Bald Creek is also conveniently located near many recreational activities including kayaking, canoeing, golfing and tennis. Buyers exploring the area will find various homesite styles such as wooded privacy settings, creek-side settings, and layered and mid-range mountain views among many others. We personally love the waterfalls and incredible long range views from the community's summit.

If the Annual Smoky Mountain Folk Festival sounds like something you would like to experience if you haven't already, it a good time to also checkout North Carolina mountain communities and Sunset Falls.
