Best South Carolina Community of the Year - Palmetto Bluff

Palmetto Bluff SC Streetscape

Off the beaten path, Palmetto Bluff is the epitome of Lowcountry living with Hilton Head Island off in the distant view. Majestic angel oaks draped in Spanish moss, New Orleans-style gas lanterns and decorative timber bridges over interior river trails lead to the various neighborhoods. Spread across 20,000 acres, the ecosystem is a thriving home to spotted bald eagles and great blue heron. An extensive trail system and park-like infrastructure provide viewing corridors and places to observe nature in a relaxed setting. Trails along the May River and Cooper River are soothing and showcase its saltwater playground.

Some folks discover this Lowcountry charmer during a stay at the five star Palmetto Bluff Inn & Spa and end up buying property in the community after they’ve experienced this slice of heaven. Crescent Communities announced in December plans to invest $100 million for the Inn’s expansion. The architecture here is timeless with cottage homes and Savannah-style curbed streets lined with white picket fences. The most popular mode of transportation in this gated community is a bicycle although Palmetto Bluff is golf cart friendly. One property owner describes Palmetto Bluff as “one of the prettiest place on earth”.

Wilson Village has set the tone for the future villages planned. The village has places to eat, places to shop and more businesses set around the great lawn. Amenities are extensive with golf membership optional. They include clubhouses, fitness centers, swimming pools, tennis courts, boating amenities, golf course, a food market, and an equestrian center, all making it hard to leave this coastal paradise. The Inn’s expansion will add more amenities for the enjoyment of visitors and property owners.

We’ve had our eye on this Lowcountry gated community since 2009 and have watched it blossom into a coastal paradise. Demand here is strong. Palmetto Bluff has more homes under construction than any other Bluffton neighborhood. Homes begin in the high $400k’s and waterfront estate homes can easily exceed $2 million. Lots can be found in the low $100k’s. To us, Palmetto Bluff has it all with packaged dues around $550 a month which includes the HOA fee.

We’re thrilled to see Palmetto Bluff’s progress and look forward to seeing the next chapter unfold at Real Estate Scorecard's 2014 Bliss Award winner for Best South Carolina Community of the Year.
