Best Mountain Community of the Year - Big Canoe
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia, Big Canoe is a gated mountain community providing sophisticated living in a forested park-like setting. Spread across 8,000 acres and eight mountains, this is one super-sized neighborhood. We honored Big Canoe in 2012 and keep coming back to this mountain community because of the value it delivers and its uber friendliness. Property owners describe Big Canoe “It's like living in an adult Disney World. We love it!” Another says “I have to pinch myself to believe I live in such a beautiful place.” You can read 42 verified property owner reviews on our website on the bottom of Big Canoe's Community Review page.
Established back in 1987, the developer continues to listen and respond to Baby Boomer trends. Last year, Big Canoe added The Villages Festival, an incredible weekly farmer’s market just beyond the gated entrance. On the drawing board, new commercial development and continued expansion are planned.
Big Canoe has a long list of awards including this year’s Silver Award achievement as Best Master-Planned Community of the Year from the National Home Builders Association. The year prior, they won a Gold Award for Best Amenity Package. Amenities include 27 holes of golf, three private spring fed lakes, a state of the art fitness center, tennis, 22 miles of hiking trails and a spectacular clubhouse overlooking the lake. HOA fees are low at just over $200 a month for a fully amenitized gated community. Big Canoe homes can be found in the low $100k's and mountain top homes can easily exceed $1 million.
City folks may initially find the area remote but in reality, Big Canoe is in close proximity to metropolitan cities. In less than one hour, property owners can be in downtown Atlanta or Chattanooga, Tennessee. Charming nearby best mountain towns include Dahlonega. We’ve found it hard to find a more affordable mountain community with rich amenities, therefore we bestow our Bliss Award on Big Canoe again, this time for the 2014 Best Mountain Community of the Year. Tried and true, Big Canoe!
