The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards - 2018 Best Equestrian Community of the Year

When we attended Tryon International Equestrian Center’s expansion celebration back in June 2015, one of our first thoughts was how lucky horse owners are at The Cliffs! Not only do they have a masterful horse amenity within one of their Lake Keowee communities, but the blessing of living so close to a world class competition facility where they can attend respected international horse shows and compete in cutting edge Hunter, Jumper and Dressage events to improve their skills.

The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards in Sunset, South Carolina has a hidden gem: A sports amenity that caters to horse lovers. This is the only luxury community in Western South Carolina we've found catering to equines in a beautiful way. The Equestrian Center at Keowee Vineyards provides full boarding services, lush green pastures, a riding arena and training pen. Basically, everything an equine would expect but, when it comes to trail rides, there’s nowhere like owning a horse and living at The Cliffs in Western South Carolina.

The landscape itself has exciting elevation changes that could be challenging on foot but on the back of a horse, it’s pure bliss. Whether riding on trails painted by summer’s blooming rhododendron or exquisite oranges and yellows in autumn, the weather in Upstate South Carolina is perfect on the back of a horse. Days filled with timeless moments connecting with nature while exploring this mountain paradise.

Owning a horse and living at The Cliffs has distinct advantages. Endless fresh air. No noise pollution. Sights and sounds that stimulate the senses. Residents can enjoy trail rides along 200 miles of trails through Jocassee Gorges Wilderness Area adjacent to the community, named one of the World’s Last Great Places by National Geographic Traveler. It is filled with scenic outlooks, jaw-dropping waterfalls and unspoiled mountain beauty.

The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards hugs the shoreline of picture perfect Lake Keowee with the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains just beyond the shores. It’s not uncommon for an equine to invest thousands and thousands of dollars into their four-legged best friend and having the ability to ‘house’ them within their neighborhood provides convenience and peace of mind. This makes The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards a true equestrian community. Here’s an overview of the Equestrian Center’s features:

  • 12’ x 12 matted stalls with automatic watering system

  • Daily stall cleaning and turnout

  • Fly buster system

  • Pastures with three board fencing

  • Temperature controlled tack room

  • Kitchen with washer and dryer

  • Two wash racks with hot and cold water

  • Beautiful lounge area

  • 270’ x 125’ arena with full set of show jumps

The Equestrian Center at The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards caters to families of all ages. Events at the barn include ghost stories at Halloween, a Kentucky Derby party and Saddle and Sip events followed by wine & hors d’oeuvres. One thing is certain, there’s never a dull moment living at The Cliffs.

For folks who are unfamiliar with The Cliffs, they are a collection of seven private luxury residential mountain and lake club communities encompassing nearly 30,000 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains. One membership at The Cliffs grants access to an unparalleled suite of amenities, including seven clubs, seven nationally-acclaimed golf courses, seven wellness centers, boating and water sports, a Beach Club, full-service marina, paddle sports, cycling, tennis, an equestrian center, miles of hiking trails, more than a dozen dining and private event venues, an organic farm and more than 2,000 year-round programs and social activities to create timeless experiences.
