Hampton Lake - 2018 Best South Carolina Community of the Year

Bluffton South Carolina is synonymous with ‘best places to live in the south’. It's also one of the fastest growing (and safest cities) in the Carolinas and is located just west of Hilton Head Island. Bluffton continues to intrigue us by its seaside personality and authentic southern charm. There are dozens of high quality master planned communities in the area but after driving through Hampton Lake last month, it sealed the award as it reminds us of their vision accomplished.

Reed Development, who built Colleton River, Belfair, Berkeley Hall, Hampton Hall, set out to build a “sustainable development” and man-made lake community that somewhat resembles Venice. To create a cozy neighborhood where residents could tool around in Duffy electric powered boats. A lake community with picture-perfect homes connected to fishing piers set along the shoreline. By building a fresh water lake that would be a healthy fish habitat stocked with tiger bass, bluegill and hybrid-striped bass while reserving protected forest to maintain a wildlife habitat. And building amenities that would please everyone in the family. Reed Development has lived up to that promise and more.

The curb appeal is second to none and has the ‘Disney-effect’ of excellence. Common areas are meticulously maintained and shaded by tree canopies. You won’t find a leaf out of place! Elegant cottage homes are decorated in soft earth tones and have welcoming white front porches, many with outdoor living rooms in the backyard overlooking the lake. Hampton Lake is peaceful and tranquil attracting birdlife that sing sweet melodies. Hampton Lake’s newest furry neighbors are a family of North American River Otters.

Their resort-style amenities are high quality and always improving. The freeform swimming pools, Har-Tru tennis courts, large fitness center and full service spa are sure to delight. Backwater Bill’s is located in the heart of it all and is where residents can grab a juicy hamburger and sweet tea. The Tackle Box at Doc’s Boathouse is one of the best kept secrets at Hampton Lake. A charming general store with apparel, gifts, fishing gear, bike, boat and kayak rentals and local homemade products.

Just out the back gate, towards the May River, residents can step into Old Town Bluffton to dine at Calhoun’s, shop at the farmer’s market or grab a bushel of oysters and shrimp from Bluffton’s Oyster Company.

Hampton Lake’s social calendar is always jam-packed with activities. Noteworthy events in 2017 included fishing tournaments, holiday boat parade, village market days, oyster roasts and seasonal festivals. Events that cater to all ages.

New homes at Hampton Lake are available in Phase 3. Last September, they opened up Crystal Lake, a new lakefront neighborhood featuring cottage homes with porches off of the second story lofts built by Logan Homes. Home prices begin in the high $300’s and homesites begin in the low $100’s. Folks looking for a gated community in the Lowcountry would regret not seeing Hampton Lake first before they buy.

We salute Hampton Lake for all their accomplishments and bestow our 2018 Bliss Award for Best South Carolina Community of the Year.
