Helms Port - 2017 Best North Carolina Community of the Year

Another one of our discoveries a couple years ago, was the charming watefrront community of Helms Port  breaking ground in Wilmington North Carolina. This seaside gem is located across from the barrier islands and is home to a protected deepwater marina on the Intracoastal Waterway. Less than five miles from the Carolina Beach Inlet, the gated community was quickly sought out by boating enthusiasts and fishermen who appreciate waterfront living.

Things that make Helms Port extra special, its proximity to Masonboro Island Estuarine Reserve. The quarter mile island is accessible only by boat and is a protected nesting ground for loggerhead and green turtles. It’s also a natural nursery for saltwater fish. Locals love surf fishing on the uncrowded island. Grab a kayak, a stand up paddle board or your boat and step into what feels like a private state park, in your backyard.

Helms Port is located directly on the Intracoastal Waterway, between Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach. Many of the new homes in Wilmington NC at Helms Port have stunning unobstructed views of Masonboro Island and the sound. Logan Home builders is the community's developer, who built an elegant 3,500 square foot coastal clubhouse overlooking a 75 slip deepwater marina and modern resort-style swimming pool in the amenity package. The marina can accommodate boats up to 44 feet in length and boat slips may be available for sale. Boaters surely appreciate how the marina is set back, off a short protected channel. The kayak launch/storage, an outdoor fire pit and private sandy beach are located on the waters edge of the Intracoastal Waterway. Residents at the boating community are constantly blessed by vibrant sunrises and soothing ocean breezes.

Logan Home builders, at the helm, has done a beautiful job with the community’s 160 home master plan. They have a track record of building stunning homes across Wilmington, Leland, Southport, and other Carolina communities. At Helms Port, Logan Home builders was a conscience steward of the rare land parcel and built the community’s amenities in the most desirable place, maximizing waterfront views for the entire community’s enjoyment.

Coastal new homes in Wilmington NC in their collection feature Lowcountry architecture, homes with big windows to capture the natural sunlight, spacious open floor plans and wrap around porches. Themed neighborhoods include Saylor’s Haven, Kathryn’s Retreat and Parker Shores. Homes began in the $400’s. Parker Shores homes situated directly on the Intracoastal Waterway begin in the $800’s. Cottage homes sell quickly when they become available. Marina lots and lots on the Intracoastal Waterway may still be available. HOA fees are low at about $130 a month to access all the amenities. Boat slips owners must join the yacht club. Fees are an additional $130 a month for those folks.

After a relaxing day on the sea, city night life, tasty restaurants and wine bars are waiting along the riverfront in downtown Wilmington. Wilmington is considered “The Next Big Thing” by the national media because of the high quality of life it offers. The movie industry has planted roots here too because of the scenic beauty. Lifelong learning courses and culture are relished at The University of North Carolina Wilmington. And for brand label shopping, Mayfaire Town Center is the hot spot, a 700,000 square foot open-air center with dozens of stores, restaurants and hotels. All of this less is than 10 miles from the boating community of Helms Port.

We watched Helms Port grow from the ground up. It has become everything one would hope for in a cozy coastal North Carolina neighborhood. The gated community is recognized for its achievements with our 2017 Bliss Award winner for Best North Carolina Community of the Year.
