The Palms - Best Beach Community of the Year
After living on the beach in South Florida for more than 10 years, we know first hand the key ingredients of perfect beach lifestyle. Walking out your front door onto the sand, an immaculately clean beach and unpopulated beach are three of the top attributes on our list. We assume everyone is aware single family homes owned on the beach can easily top $1 million in price so for most of us, this type of home ownership is unlikely. That leaves beachfront townhomes and condominiums. As our research continued in Costa Rica, we stumbled upon a beachfront paradise in Playa Flamingo about two hours north of one of the newly renovated Costa Rica international airports.
The Palms is the epitome of beachfront living, whether for retirement or Costa Rica vacations. The Guanacaste gated community is set along the seashore in a cove with million dollar Mc-Mansions tucked above in the forest. Whistling tropical birds continually remind one of how special Costa Rica is. The Palms is a collection of 34 luxury two story villas where only the meticulously landscaped green space separates the property owners from the skinny palm tree-lined beach. In less than 2 minutes, you can comb the beach for delicate pink seashells or surf fish. No elevators to wait on or lobbies to pass through. Just walk out your back door barefoot. The deserted beach stretches to the north and shares space with the four star Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa. To the south, the mountain rock formations jet out into the sea.
Amenities within The Palms include a Zen-link oceanfront infinity edge pool, mini-tiki bar and super-sized jacuzzi. The villas are decked out in marble, hardwood floors and floor to ceiling windows capturing the magnificent sunsets. Catering to the finicky chefs in the family, the kitchen is built with top of the line features such as Sub-Zero and Viking appliances. Units in the private residence club are fully furnished with a Tommy Bahama flair. The master bathroom is huge and has a walk-in shower and super-sized jacuzzi tub. Prices for deeded oceanfront property here range from the low $100k’s for a fractional ownership to full ownership priced around $900k. Short term rentals are permitted. During the peak season, rental rates are as high as $1,000 a night.
Pampering concierge and housekeeping services are available for Costa Rica vacations. Members of the private residence club also have exchange privileges with ClubCorp providing access to access 350+ cities, athletic and country clubs around the world. The Palms has gone to great lengths to ensure property owners enjoy maintenance free living on the beach. Water toys on property include boogie boards, kayaks, and more. Meeting our top 3 attributes of a perfect beach lifestyle, The Palms in Playa Flamingo left a permanent impression on us and is a place you’ll pray time stands still.
