Sea Pines - Best South Carolina Community of the Year
How can one not giggle like a child when they see the red and white candy striped Harbour Town lighthouse at the yacht basin? A whimsical beacon of the pristine Hilton Head Island beaches and waterways in and around the Calibogue Sound. Over 2 million people a year visit the island and the lucky ones own a home at Sea Pines, one of the most diverse Hilton Head gated communities we’ve seen.
Sea Pines was originally the mastermind of the Fraser family back in the early 1960’s and has become the inspiration of almost every high quality resort-oriented community built in America ever since. Fraser’s concept was to design resort-style residential community on the ocean and minimally impact the environment. Bravo - mission accomplished. No building at the resort is taller than the tallest magnolia or oak tree. The community is lush and the private beaches are pristine.
Sea Pines is home to the first golf course built on Hilton Head Island back in 1962. The Heritage Classic tournament was held in 1969, South Carolina’s first PGA Tour event at Harbour Town Golf Links. Since then, three more golf courses have been added and a golf academy. The Sea Pines Country Club is a private golf course within the community.Things are continuously improving at Sea Pines. New and improved amenities:
- Plantation Golf Clubhouse serving the Heron Point and Ocean golf courses
- The Harbour Town Golf Links golf clubhouse opened last year
- Sea Pines Beach Club with dining and retail shops
The New Sea Pines Beach Club provides convenient beach access, oceanfront dining with stunning views of the ocean, and a surf shop and market. Tennis is equally in fashion within the Hilton Head gated communities. More network televised tennis tournaments have been played at Sea Pines than any other resort in America. The Sea Pines Racquet Club has 21 clay courts, a pro shop and 1,800 seat stadium court. TENNIS Magazine's ranked the club "#1 Ranking for Tennis Programs”. The gated community also has a brand new fitness center.
Kitchen challenged? There are seven restaurants and dining options within the gates. From munching on a casual burger to savoring the finest in Lowcountry cuisine, Sea Pines has it all. And what a better way to burn off the calories than biking on the beach. The biking trails within Sea Pines community and on Hilton Head Island are among the finest in the nation. More than 60 miles of public pathways and nature trails weave in and around the island just outside the gates of Sea Pines.
Maybe you’d rather discover the allure of Hilton Head horseback riding. The Lawton Stables at Sea Pines offer one-hour, guided, western-style trail rides on gentle horses several times daily. Meander through 600 lush acres of The Sea Pines Resort Forest Preserve on horseback to get a feel for the true untouched Lowcountry. The facility is home to an international riding academy. We appreciate the unique setting found here. As they say at Sea Pines, “life is measured by laughs and smiles.”
The diversity of home options available is wonderful and much less expensive than Kiawah Island. Villas can be found as low as in the mid $100k’s. Single family home range from the $300k’s to oceanfront estates exceeding $8 million. Whether for a vacation or second home or active retirement, there’s a home for just about every budget at Sea Pines. Property management programs are available to provide hassle free investment income.
