BEST FOODIE FESTIVALS

Savannah, Georgia is known for its beautiful Historic District filled with cobblestone streets, Antebellum mansions, fascinating museums and grandiose churches. The Hostess City is by far, one of the best places to live in the South because of its laid back style, southern charm and famous Paula Deen’s popular restaurant, The Lady and Sons.  These days, Savannah is also famous for its Wiener Dog Races.

The race is the highlight of this year’s Oktoberfest, set for Oct. 2th-4th. Festivities kick off on Friday from 4pm-10pm featuring first Friday fireworks at dark.  Saturday runs all day from 10am-10pm. Sunday’s Oktoberfest runs from 10am-5pm.

Festival attendees can expect:

  • German beer
  • German food including bratwurst, sauerkraut and pretzels
  • Sausage eating contest
  • Chicken dances
  • Arts & Crafts vendors

Savannah’s Riverfront district, which includes River Street, Bay Street and Hutchinson Island, has become a top attraction for visitors. There’s no place quite like it. There are casual and upscale restaurants with inside and outside dining, pubs, bistros and live music.

Shopping is another big attraction to the Riverfront. City Market is just two blocks from River Street. It is now home to art studios and galleries, charming restaurants and unique shops. The river is also a place to get a close-up look at some of nature’s most unique creatures. You can see dolphins, manatees and even alligators, depending on the time of year.

Savannah's historic churches are some of the most architecturally significant structures in the country. The celebrated Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Church and Congregation Mickve Israel - the third oldest Jewish congregation in the country - are remarkable. Also of note are the museums - from the contemporary Jepson Center to the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum and the Ships of the Sea Museum - there is something for every interest.

The fifty-block Victorian District is situated just south of the Historic District. This area contains a large number of Victorian homes featuring whimsical gingerbread trim, stained glass windows, and many unique architectural details.

Savannah isn’t only a great place to visit; it’s also one of the best places to live in the South. Savannah gated communities and neighborhoods are enchanting, charming and in close proximity to the Riverfront area. The Landings is renowned for its premier golf club style living. Laid back is a way of life here that one can easy acclimate to. Savannah features the Landings Club, a private luxury golf club with resort-class amenities in a vacation setting on Skidaway Island.

The Landings Club is one of the top Savannah gated communities and is home to 6 championship golf courses and four Landings Club clubhouses. The Arnold Palmer-designed marsh wood course features sweeping views of salt marshes and tidal creeks. The Landings also features 2 deep-water marinas, 34 world class tennis courts, 32 soft and two hard surfaces, one stadium center court, tennis club house, state-of-the-art fitness center, a dog park, 5 swimming pools, fishing lagoons and biking and walking trails.

Southbridge Golf Club has long been the most highly acclaimed golf course in the Savannah area. Legendary architect Rees Jones designed this course.  It’s located just a few miles outside Savannah’s historic district. It is a well-maintained course with picturesque landscaping and contoured fairways winding through of stately oak trees and Georgia pines. Additionally, lagoons have been strategically placed in order to provide beauty as well as challenge. Multiple tee placements offers the choice of different levels of play to the occasional and most serious golfers as well.

Savannah Quarters is an upscale Savannah gated community that oozes luxury. It features southern charm, beauty and outdoor fun in Pooler Georgia.  The exclusive Savannah Quarters Country Club could be one of the best places to live in the South because it features an 18-hole Greg Norman Signature Golf Course, a pool, fitness center, tennis courts, and fine dining. Savannah Quarters offers lush landscaping and a variety of home styles all with the peace of mind that comes from secure gated living.  Savannah Quarters is located 12 miles west of Savannah and provides easy access to the airport, shopping and beaches.
