SMALL COASTAL TOWNS IN FLORIDA

Vero Beach, nicknamed the Treasure Coast, is one of the secret gems in Florida. It sits on the Atlantic Ocean and is home to pleasant temperatures year-round, great outlet shopping and unspoiled beaches with rolling blue green waves and golden sand. South Florida residents who travel north, to decompress in Vero Beach, describe the crown jewel as quiet and relaxing.

Vero Beach luxury real estate is now drawing ritzy comparisons to the famous Hamptons – the affluent eastern beach towns in Long Island known for weekend escapes from New York City. People may not know Vero Beach has its fair share of wealthy celebrities, socialites and entrepreneurs have beach homes in the area, making it one of the top small coastal towns in Florida.

Celebrity sightings in Vero Beach are more common these days thanks to Gloria Estefan opening the swanky Costa d’Este hotel. VC Ocean Development LLC, led by developer Vic Lombardi, announced plans last spring to build 11 luxury town homes in four buildings on the previous Surf Club site. Prices for the 3,200-square-foot town homes will start at $2.5 million. Another wow factor that’s making Vero Beach more Hampton-like is the elegant and private oceanfront homes. We see people flocking to Vero Beach for these reasons:

  • Small population of about 15,000 people
  • Several unspoiled beaches and Sebastian Inlet
  • The Indian River Lagoon, a shallow-water wildlife estuary
  • Large variety of luxury homes, beach and vacation homes

Sophisticated and savvy, this coastal area is also home to luxury Vero Beach golf communities, including the West Indies-themed Orchid Island. The gated community includes a spectacular waterfront and golf course homes, and is widely-considered one of the most visually stunning and exclusive barrier island private clubs in Florida. The Vero Beach luxury real estate development features an award-winning Arnold Palmer championship golf course, lush landscaping and exceptional dining venues. Other amenities include a stunning oceanfront clubhouse, private beach, a full-service spa, a relaxing pool and a state-of-the-art Tennis & Fitness Center.

Johns Island is another prestigious gated community located just north of Vero Beach. The vibe is casual yet sophisticated in this area between the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway. Named one of “America’s Top 25 Golf Communities” by Travel & Leisure Golf, there are three courses by Pete Dye, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio, making it a top choice among Vero Beach golf communities. Other world-class amenities include 2 magnificent clubhouses, an oceanfront Beach Club, miles of private-access beaches, a tennis facility, and fitness center. Vero Beach’s charming seaside downtown area is only a short drive away.

The private oceanfront club of Windsor has been described as a world class polo club but it is so much more. Its breathtaking palm tree-lined streets continue to attract the rich and famous.  Homes here begin just over $1 million and quickly approach $10 million. Buyers can choose from oceanfront property, golf estates or a Windsor Park residence. Unlike other Vero Beach golf communities, this beach, golf and equestrian community spans 416 acres between the Indian River Lagoon and sparkling Atlantic Ocean. Members enjoy the luxuries of a private club with a Robert Trent Jones Jr. championship golf course, gun club and tennis. Other amenities include a lavish equestrian center and lush polo field where charity events have brought Prince Charles, actor Tommy Lee Jones and Italian hotelier Salvatore Ferragamo to its own town center and an exclusive beach club with private cabanas. The architecture is timeless and is one of the most beautiful private club’s we’ve seen in Florida.

While Vero Beach luxury real estate is drawing comparisons to The Hamptons, Vero Beach offers homes at all price points. In fact, the median home price on the mainland is in the $250k’s. Homes on the fringes of Vero average in the mid $150k’s, in neighborhoods in smaller towns like Sebastian or Fort Pierce.  Vero Beach to be one of the best small coastal towns in Florida whether your affluent or an average American.
