Tellico Village Launches New Dragonboat Club
Over the past few years, dragon boat racing has become a popular sport in Tennessee. In many of the top waterfront retirement communities, this 2000 year old Chinese pastime is a great way to have fun and compete. Just as in ancient China, modern "villagers" gather every year in ornate wooden boats to see which boat has the best showing of teamwork, strength and speed. To prepare for state-wide dragon boat racing competitions, club members now meet at the Tellico Lake waterfront on Monday and Saturday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m., and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m. All Tellico Village residents are encouraged to bring a friend, and to wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are likely to get wet.
