Whether you’re just passing through or are considering relocating to one of the top Florida retirement cities, here’s a few of our favorite things to do in Vero to help you get to know the area better:

GATOR BAIT AIRBOAT ADVENTURES - County Road 512, Vero Beach, FL 32966 Phone: 772-766-2629

If you want to see live alligators, up close and personal, this is the exciting, fun, and educational tour for you. They not only know where to find the gators, they guarantee it - and have made friends with some. Big Bubba, King Kong and Wally Gator top the list, and you won’t need a telescopic lens to get a clear picture of these guys.

MCKEE BOTANICAL GARDEN  - 350 US Highway 1, Vero Beach, FL 32962 Phone: 772-794-0601

This tropical hammock at the southern gateway to Vero Beach, is where native plants and exotic botanicals come together in majestic harmony. There are 18 acres of natural landscape to explore, with trees, waterfalls and historic structures along the way.

Hours of Operation: Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Sunday 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., Closed Monday.

PELICAN ISLAND WILDLIFE REFUGE - 4055 Wildlife Way, Vero Beach, FL 32963 Phone: 772-581-5557

With a long history of protecting the area’s wildlife, this threatened region has been carefully preserved and kept through various means for more than a century. For the first 100 years, the only way to see the refuge was by boat. But it is now more accessible to the public with the addition of the Centennial Trail, a boardwalk with an 18-foot observation tower. Th is a fantastic place to learn about not only Pelican Island, but also the National Wildlife Refuge System, and the birth of the American conservation movement.

Hours of Operation: Monday through Sunday 7:30 a.m.-sunset.

RIVER EXPLORER BOAT DAY TOURS  - 3341 Bridge Plaza Dr, Vero Beach, FL 32963 Phone: 772-766-2628

A relaxing pontoon boat cruise takes you to explore the most diverse estuary in Florida. Bottle-nose dolphin and manatee sightings are common. There is also a huge variety of waterfowl including white pelicans that migrate to the Treasure Coast for the winter. Florida's spectacular sunsets and moonrises are even more amazing from the water on a boat.

For Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Regional Theatre productions, come to Riverside Theater. A strong supporter of the community's youth through educational opportunities designed to cultivate tomorrow’s artists in a nurturing and collaborative environment.

SEBASTIAN INLET STATE PARK  - 9700 South Highway A.1.A., Melbourne Beach, FL 32951 Phone: 321-984-4852

Discover a man made cut through the barrier island that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Indian River Lagoon and is one of the most biodiverse estuaries in the world. This three-mile, 1000-acre park is a great place to go beachcombing, surfing, swimming, and snorkeling. There are boat launch facilities and the park has a marina as well as 51 campsites with full amenities.

Hours of Operation: The park is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

VERO BEACH ART STROLL - along 14th Avenue from 19th Street to 23rd Street and the surrounding area.

The galleries and businesses of historic downtown Vero Beach welcome you during the First Friday Gallery Stroll. Enjoy new artwork every month in a posh gallery reception atmosphere.

Hours of Operation: 5:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. on the first Friday of each month.

VERO BEACH HISTORICAL & GHOST WALKING TOUR  - Driftwood Resort, 3150 Ocean Drive, Vero Beach, FL 32963 Phone: 772-559-5966

You can take a tour revisiting the haunted and historical best of Vero Beach. For about an hour and a half, you'll stroll along a one-mile stretch. It may be a good idea to bring a flashlight, water and an umbrella or rain poncho, although tours will be cancelled if the weather is too bad.

This Museum serves a three-county area: more than 75,000 residents and visitors annually, and provides high quality cultural education and enjoyment to the region. From exhibitions, collections, and gallery tours to studio art and educational programs, there is something here for everyone.
