People searching for the best retirement cities in Florida may be surprised to find that there are lots of interesting and fun things to do along Palm Coast, but sometimes it's hard to decide where to start. In addition to the beautiful unspoiled beaches, Florida's most historic city is home to one of the first Florida colleges and the famous World Golf Village Hall of Fame. We have taken the liberty of compiling this list of educational and entertaining things for you to do with your friends and family, and we hope you love it here as much as we do.

FLAGLER COLLEGE - 74 King St, St Augustine, FL 32084 Phone: 800-304-4208

Visiting Flagler College transports you back in time through its gorgeous Spanish architecture. The 19-acre campus surrounds historic Ponce de Leon Hall, which was built in 1888 as a luxury hotel. Its architects, John Carrere and Thomas Hastings, worked for Henry Morrison Flagler, the well-known industrialist, oil magnate and railroad pioneer. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Frequent events at the college draw the community in for educational activities and just plain fun.

Founded in 1565, the historic fort overlooking the Atlantic Ocean was the military outpost of the Spain's coastal defenses. The United States took it over in 1821. Fort Matanzas National Monument is found 14 miles south of St. Augustine on Anastastia Island.

GHOST TOURS OF ST. AUGUSTINE - 4 Granada Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084 Phone: 904-829-1122

Spooky and fun, a number of ghost tours are available, and all of them are fascinating.  Call ahead to find out more and reserve your spot, especially if you’re going to be with a large group.

MARINELAND DOLPHIN ADVENTURE - 9600 N Ocean Shore Blvd, St Augustine, FL 32080 Phone: 904-471-1111

Marineland Dolphin Adventure, the world's first oceanarium, has been around for over 75 years. Originally known as Marine Studios, they opened on June 23, 1938. Offering numerous interactive and in-water programs, the facility is dedicated to helping guests make personal connections with animals.

Hours of Operation: Open 365 Days a year 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., December 25: 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

PONCE DE LEON'S FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH ARCHEOLOGICAL PARK - 11 Magnolia Ave, St Augustine, FL 32084 Phone: 904-829-3168

You can tour Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, which is the original site of St. Augustine, the Nation's oldest city. Discovered 55 years before the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock, its history spans nearly 500 years. The park is situated upon 15 acres of beautiful waterfront land, which you may explore either with a formal tour or at your leisure.

POTTER'S WAX MUSEUM - 31 Orange St, St Augustine, FL 32084 Phone: 904-829-9056

Over 150 wax figures spanning 50 years of history, this is the first established wax museum in the United States. Both educational and fun, these realistic statues range from historical figures to celebrities.

Hours of Operation: Sunday through Thursday 10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., Friday & Saturday 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

SCENIC CRUISE ST. AUGUSTINE - 111 Avenida Menendez, St Augustine, FL 32084 Phone: 904-824-1806

The St. Augustine Scenic Cruise presents passengers with a special view of the city and a relaxing way to enjoy St. Augustine's historic landmarks. Narrated by the Captain, these tours go out several times each day, and last one hour and fifteen minutes. This is the perfect way to learn about one of the best retirement cities in Florida.

SAN SEBASTIAN WINERY - 157 King St, St Augustine, FL 32084 Phone: 904-826-1594 

San Sebastian Winery lies within one of Henry Flagler’s old East Coast Railway buildings, just a few blocks from historic downtown St. Augustine. Considered by historians to be the birthplace of American wine San Sebastian is one of Florida's premium wineries, and their wines are sold not only at the winery but also at major supermarkets and wine shops throughout Florida.

Hours of Operation: Monday-Saturday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Sunday 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

ST. AUGUSTINE ALLIGATOR FARM ZOOLOGICAL PARK  - 999 Anastasia Blvd, St Augustine, FL 32080 Phone: 904-824-3337

Over 100 years old, this park began as a small exhibit of Florida reptiles and grew to become a favorite Florida attraction. Now it has become a full-fledged zoo with daily educational shows and exhibits as well as a thrilling zipline adventure.

WHETSTONE CHOCOLATE FACTORY - 139 King St, St Augustine, FL 32084 Phone: 904-217-0275

Founders Henry and Esther Whetstone are Florida natives, lifelong residents of northeast Florida. They entered the chocolate market by creating their own fudge recipe and later Henry hand-carved molds for their solid chocolate gators and dolphins.

Hours of Operation: Sunday through Friday 10:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m., Saturday 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.

WORLD GOLF VILLAGE HALL OF FAME - 1 World Golf Place, St. Augustine, FL 32092 Phone: 904-940-4133

A museum honoring golf's greatest players and contributors. Explore genuine artifacts from our members though a variety of exhibits and the Member Locker room. You can also try out the golf simulator to play some of the world's best golf courses. The 18-hole, natural-grass putting course onsite is one of the Hall of Fame’s two outdoor exhibits that let you put your skill to the test at the home of golf’s greatest players. The other is a 132-yard island green reminiscent of the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass.
