Visit Bear Hollow Zoo for an up-close look at Georgia’s native wildlife. Also, on Saturdays and most Sundays, the exhibit hall is open to the public during the afternoon hours.

Whether it’s a birthday party, tour group, or just a family looking to have some fun, Escape the Space is a great place to go. This is a real life escape game. Teams are allotted one hour to solve the mysteries hidden deep within their rooms and "escape". By working together while exploring the room, evaluating clues, and solving intricate, quirky, puzzles.

Hours of Operation: 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. daily, but call ahead for reservations.

Food Tours are an extremely popular and fun way to learn a bit about your new hometown – or the city you’re visiting. GEORGIA MUSEUM OF ART - 90 Carlton St, Athens, GA 30602 Phone: 706-542-4662

The museum doubles as a university museum and the official state museum of art, with programs for patrons of all ages - from child to senior citizen - and free admission. They strive to provide art for everyone by removing barriers to accessibility and working to foster a nurturing educational environment.

Hours of Operation: Galleries are open to the public Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Thursday, 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.; Sunday, 1:00-5:00 p.m., Closed on Mondays.

GEORGIA THEATRE - 215 North Lumpkin Street, Athens, GA 30601 Phone: 706-850-7670

Dating back to 1889, the list of bands who have played here reads like a list of 'who's who'. Some say the Georgia Theatre has the best roof top bar in Athens. This is a must see if you're exploring Athens for the first time! 

SANDY CREEK NATURE CENTER - 205 Old Commerce Rd, Athens, GA 30607 Phone: 706-613-3615

The Nature Center features 225 lush acres of woodlands and wetlands; offering over four miles of trails for hiking, including an ADA interpretive trail and connections to the North Oconee River Greenway and Cook's Trail. There is also an Education & Visitor Center with live reptiles, amphibians, marine and freshwater aquariums, as well as interactive natural history exhibits, and an incredible resource library.

Hours of Operation: Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.

SANFORD STADIUM - The University of Georgia, 110 Field St., Athens, GA 30602 Phone: 706-542-9036

If you enjoy football, Sanford Stadium is the on-campus venue at the University of Georgia. Their 92,746-seat stadium is the tenth-largest stadium in the NCAA. Don’t forget to say hello to the Georgia Bulldog’s mascot “Russ”. 

Hours of Operation: Ticket office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

THE STATE BOTANICAL GARDEN OF GEORGIA - 2450 S. Milledge Ave, Athens, GA 30606 Phone: 706-542-1244

Home to a vast array of collections, displays and trails, The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a wonderful place to stroll and enjoy the scenery. From medicinal plants to showy specimens from the Tropical Greenhouse Collection, you never know what you'll see and learn here.

Hours of Operation: Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Sunday 11:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Closed on Monday and on University Holidays.    

MASADA LEATHER & OUTDOOR - 238 E Clayton St, Athens, GA 30601 Phone: 706-546-5014

For unique and well-made handcrafted sandals and belts, the custom leather shop Masada Leather and Outdoor has been around since 1975. Irvin Alhadeff, Masada's artisan-owner and founder attributes his success to the fine craftsmanship he learned from his grandfather, which you can still see in use here.

R. WOOD CERAMICS - 450 Georgia Dr, Athens, GA 30605 Phone: 706-613-8525

The artist Rebecca Wood's R. Wood studio started in 1991 an old produce warehouse here in Athens, GA. Now it is one of the largest pottery studios where each piece is still entirely made and painted by hand in the United States. With colors and shapes inspired by the southern region, the studio also produces unique one-of-a kind pieces which are highly sought by collectors. R. Wood studio's artists deeply enjoy what they do, and their work proves it.
