Between 1987 and 1989, the remainder of the Champion McDowell Davis Charitable Foundation property was sold to the Porters Neck Company for development of an 850 acre gated and un-gated residential community.” Headed by John Elmore, Porters Neck Company hired Tom Fazio to design an 18-hole golf course, which opened in October 1991.
