The PGA’s RBC Heritage Golf Tournament has been held annually at Sea Pines for more than four decades. The Heritage and associated Heritage Classic Foundation - which has raised millions of dollars for charity - were established in 1969 by Sea Pines founder Charles E. Fraser. Harbour Town is busy year round with concerts, kids activities, water sports, eco-tours, and explorations.

The buildings here tend to be painted in muted tones in order to blend seamlessly with the natural setting while mature landscaping compliments the cedar plank siding, sheltering overhangs, and screened-in porches of most homes at this popular South Carolina destination. There’s truly something for everyone within this gated community. With nearly 5,000 family-oriented residences within Sea Pines ranging from condos and townhomes to villas and oceanfront vacation properties. Buyers can choose the more laid-back lifestyle of a patio home or beach cottage but if life requires maintenance-free living, there are multi-family complexes and even luxurious full-service oceanfront retreats available. There are around 15,000 annual vacationers taking advantage of the 400 or so privately-owned seasonal rentals available for that purpose at one of the top places to live in South Carolina, and they bring a phenomenal amount of revenue to this luscious ocean paradise.

Central (Plantation), Club Course, Harbour Town, Ocean Side, and South Beach are the five enchanting and unique individual sections that comprise Sea Pines. Each has its own special style and character.

CENTRAL - Central Sea Pines, also called Plantation, is home to a 605-acre Forest Preserve, dedicated to maintaining the pristine nature of wetlands and woodlands within. A private equestrian facility, Lawton Stables, offers Western-style trail rides as well as pony rides and a petting area where visitors can feed the animals. Homes in Central Sea Pines neighborhoods (Calibogue Cay, Greenwood Forest, Lawton Woods, and Heritage Woods) offer views of the forest and lagoons as well as saltwater coves.

PLANTATION CLUB COURSE - The Greenwood Gate is the front entrance to Sea Pines, and the Club Course section, which contains the Sea Pines Country Club, is the first area you'll come to. Single and multi-family homes & townhomes are located here, and most have patios with fairway, marsh or woodland views. If you prefer to put a bit of distance between yourself and the resort activities of  Sea Pines, this location is perfect for you.

HARBOUR TOWN - Harbour Town, the site of the famous Harbour Town Golf Links, is by far the most well-known section of Sea Pines. Due to its situation on Calibogue Sound and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, Harbour Town's full-service marina is able to provide watercraft rentals for everything from fishing to parasailing; and its world-famous yacht basin holds 95 boat slips which can accommodate vessels up to 163' in length. The marina contains ample shopping and dining choices as well as the prestigious Harbour Town Yacht Club. You'll know you're home when you spot the red-and-white striped lighthouse; which is near the moss-draped, stately, and elegant branches of the centuries-old Liberty Oak tree - a favorite location for weddings and other gatherings. The residence choices here include Mediterranean-style living in townhomes and villas, a perfect place to watch the sun set over Calibogue Sound.

OCEAN SIDE - The Ocean Gate is considered to be the back gate to Sea Pines, and it is also the location for its Ocean Side section; which, as its name implies, contains the Atlantic seashore. Naturally, this area is popular with year-round inhabitants and vacationers alike. Property owners enjoy private walkways for pedestrian access to the beach. The Plantation Golf Club with its Heron Point and Ocean courses is in the Ocean Gate region; along with the Sea Pines Resort Beach Club, a $13 million oceanfront facility. Most residences here are right on the beach or within a short walking distance thereof; which is why this is where you will find some of the most magnificent homes on Hilton Head Island – especially alongside East Beach Lagoon, which is also known as the “Gold Coast.”

SOUTH BEACH - South Beach is the southernmost section of Sea Pines, and known for fantastic dolphin-watching opportunities, it is bordered by the waters of Calibogue Sound and the Atlantic. South Beach Marina has been said to resemble a fishing village from New England. This is where you will find the South Beach Racquet Club, an inn and just about any water sport imaginable in the gated community. You can also enjoy indoor and outdoor dining, as well as the many charming shops which line the waterfront. The Tower Beach Club, which has ample parking and a covered picnic pavilion, is a private facility provided for the use of residents. South Beach’s condos and oceanfront homes lie along the most spacious, serene stretch of Hilton Head’s seaboard. As in Ocean Side, there are paths in between homes to provide property owners with access to the beaches or residents can scoot over to the Sea Pines Resort Beach Club.

Hilton Head Island International Baccalaureate Elementary School, Hilton Head Island Middle School, and Hilton Head Island High School, as well as Hilton Head Island School for the Creative Arts are the closest, best schools to Sea Pines. Whether you choose to live here year round or make Sea Pines one of your favorite South Carolina destinations, it’s hard to beat Hilton Head Island.
