East of the Cooper River in one of the best places to live in Charleston SC, you will find RiverTowne Country Club and RiverTowne, two charming established neighborhoods located side by side on the Wando River. Developed by Centex Homes in the late 1990’s, RiverTowne Country Club is spread across 180 acres. The centerpiece of the country club in Charleston SC is the area's only 18 hole Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course. In 2011, the golf course was voted one of the best public courses you can play in South Carolina adding to their three achievement awards.

RiverTowne's beautifully maintained course meanders in between lakes, the Wando River and homes overlooking the golf course. Thirteen of the golf holes are waterfront holes along the Horlbeck Creek and Wando River. Completed in 2003, the plantation-style clubhouse overlooks the club’s outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. Dining options at the club include casual lunches and more formal dinners. Membership to the club includes reciprocal privileges at many South Carolina golf communities and eleven Affiniti Golf Clubs such as The Georgia Club, Chestatee Golf Club and Echelon. Property owners are not required to join the golf club.

The 600 acre Charleston neighborhood on the Wando has its own resort-style swimming pool, tennis courts and waterfront dockage. Low Country style homes have welcoming stairways leading up to the second floor and are common to find along with one level range-style cottage homes. White picket fences and a charming community post office add to the home town feel. The waterfront setting provides spacious marsh views while walking along the sidewalks decorated by mature live oak trees. Biking and walking trails lead to more dedicated pathways. Social clubs are active at RiverTowne and include themed nights, Friday night cocktails and children’s events.

The majority of the homes are built out in both South Carolina golf communities. Neighborhoods to explore include Palmetto Isle, Carolina Isle, Pine Isle, Marsh Isle and Parker’s Landing. Deep water homes with dockage on the river are available in both neighborhoods. Homes for sale at the RiverTowne development begin in the low $300k’s. Architectural styles in include coastal cottage and traditional southern architecture. Builders with a presence were Centex Homes, DR Horton Homes and Crescent Homes. RiverTowne is close to shopping, restaurants and medical facilities in Mount Pleasant making it one of the best places to live in Charleston SC.
