Also within the Park you’ll find South Carolina’s only publicly accessible historic lighthouse. The Hunting Island Lighthouse dates back to the 1870s, and stands 170 feet tall. Climbing to the top offers a marvelous view of both the surrounding Lowcountry marshland and Atlantic Ocean.
The closest, best schools to the Islands of Beaufort are Port Royal Elementary School and Beaufort Middle School. For higher education, the nearby University of South Carolina Beaufort's Historic Beaufort Campus is on the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway in downtown Beaufort. This is a four-year university which offers undergraduate programs of study to around 1500 students. The University of South Carolina Beaufort's Hilton Head Gateway Campus is also located nearby.
