Hugging the shores of the Wando River you'll find one of the best places to live in Charleston SC that captures the essence of spaciousness and grandeur. Established in the early 1990's, Atlanta's premier home builder John Weiland Homes, acquired this 1,500 acre award master planned community and to the best of our knowledge, still owns the Dunes West club amenities today. 

You may be surprised to discover Dunes West is one of the few public South Carolina communities. The 18 hole championship golf course is designed by Arthur Hills. Dunes West Golf and River Club was named 2009 Golf Course of the Year by the Charleston Golf Course Owners Association, voted a Top Ten New Resort Course by Golf Digest and One of America's Fifty Best Courses by Golf Week Magazine. The lush golf course is the beautiful centerpiece of the country club in Charleston SC and is visible from almost every direction. The community's picturesque Antebellum style golf clubhouse overlooking Wagner Creek is a popular setting for social events, elegant weddings and is a relaxing retreat after a day on the links. The pro shop, locker rooms, casual dining grill and fitness center are all located at clubhouse. Property owners are not required to join the golf club.

Dunes West community amenities include tennis courts, two swimming pools, a fitness center, children's playground and most are located at The Commons, just beyond the main gated entrance. The resort-style zero entry swimming pool includes a water slide and children's water features. The Racquet Club at Dunes West features nine lighted tennis courts, six asphalt and three clay, complemented by viewing pavilions and a pro shop. The tennis center offers a variety of tennis programs including camps, league play, group clinics and private lessons for all ages. Walking trails, a private boat ramp/dock on Wagner Creek and dry storage facility add more to the outdoor lifestyle at Dunes West. Social club events include book clubs, cooking classes, tournaments and weekly dinner socials. All these features combined make Dunes West one of the best places to live in Charleston SC. 

Richmond Cove, Marsh Cove, The Harbour and The Heritage at Dunes West are four of the community's neighborhoods. Dunes West architecturals styles include traditional brick style homes, New England cottage style homes and homes with a European flair. Some of these Charleston neighborhoods have spacious sized lots accented by intriguing roadways weaving in and around the neighborhood, providing a sense of elbow room and privacy. The Harbor West at Dunes West is John Weiland's newest neighborhood and is closest to the private boat ramp and dock on Wagner Creek. Summerville Builders is also one of the home builders with a presence at this country club in Charleston SC.

Approximately 2,400 homes have been built to date. Townhomes at The Heritage at Dunes West start in the mid $200k's, homes for sale in the The Harbour at Dunes West range in the high $300k's - the $700k's and luxury estate homes exceed $1 million.

I enjoy our community and love the amenities. My biggest complaint is the management group for the HOA. They doesn't enforce the covenants and don't care if homeowners have complaints. The HOA management group treats homeowners as an inconvenience.

POA needs to enforce maintenance covenants as strictly as they did 10 years ago. I pay full dues for a vacant lot as my residential lot, no extra services. I paid $2,000 to join the club in 1998. Now anyone (public) can join for $999.
