Formerly Henry Ford's winter estate, this traditional Savannah country club on Lake Clara will steal your breath away by the sweeping river views and cathedral-like live oak trees cascading with Spanish moss. As one of the most charming gated communities in Georgia, Ford Plantation features first class amenities and cozy Lowcountry homes. The park-like setting is spread over 1,800 acres and only 400 families will call the plantation home at the project's completion. Their gated entrance provides privacy, seclusion and a sense of security and is only about 30 minutes from downtown Historic Savannah Georgia, one of America's best college towns.

Pete Dye designed the private championship golf course at The Ford Plantation reflective of Scottish-style links. In 2013, the club began a $7 million restoration of the golf course and the project is now complete. The grand white stairways leading up to the golf clubhouse will make you feel like a high society socialite indulging in decadent pleasures at the club's signature restaurant. All property owners are required to become equity members of the Savannah country club. The equity dues are approximately $19,000 a year plus the $50k partially refundable initiation fee.

The Ford Plantation Equestrian Center is a full service boarding facility with 22 stalls, 24 hour survelliance, climate controlled tack rooms, sprinkler system, showers and more horse care conveniences for the serious equine hobbyist. Beyond the barn, 22 acres of paddocks, outdoor arenas and practice jumps enhance the facility. 10 miles of riding trails inside the gates include the Lake Clara Trail which weaves around the east edge of the community passing by Ford's Island, a wildlife and bird sanctuary and the Georgian Ford Mansion. Baby Boomers searching for equestrian retirement communities won't want to miss experiencing the plantation and seeing the equestrian center before purchasing horse property.

An old fashioned red barn is the Savannah community's high tech 6,000 square foot fitness center adjacent to the heated outdoor swimming pool, Lake Dye Grill and 3 Har-Tru tennis courts. The fitness center has men and ladies locker rooms with saunas. Indoor courts can be converted to basketball courts, volleyball courts or squash ball courts. Group classes such as yoga, pilates and spinning are available as well as personal trainers. After an invigorating workout, head over to The Spa at The Ford Plantation for a massage, facial or body treatment. A full service hair salon is also located at The Spa.

The Main House is the focal piece of one of the most picturesque gated communities in Georgia and was originally Henry Ford's winter estate home. Social events throughout the year are hosted at the historic Main House and residents can stop by daily to enjoy a Lowcountry breakfast overlooking Lake Clara. The gardens and fountains at the Main House are beautiful photographic places or places to curl up and read a book. Kayaking and canoeing are outdoor activities popular on the protected interior waterways at The Ford Plantation. Whether residents prefer biking or hiking, there are 1,800 acres to explore inside the gates.

The Historic Oyster House overlooking Lake Clara is home to the community's Naturalist who offers education tours and nature hikes inside of this protected wildlife community. The Oyster House is also the location of The Ford Plantation Oyster Roasts held each month during the winter months. The sporting club activities calendar is filled with fishing tournaments, tennis tournaments, golf tournaments and social club events. The Savannah community is the host of a Speaker Series where educational presenters from around the area share history, culture and topics of interest to residents, a real plus to those seeking equestrian retirement communities. For families with young children, the closest best schools are Savannah Country Day School, Savannah Christian, St. Vincent's Academy, and Benedictine Military School. For Boomers who enjoy lifelong learning, Savannah is one of America's best college towns.

"Ford is ruled by a group of inept Directors who manage the Club and property for their own benefit at the expense of others. They are bullies, rude and uncaring. They have run people into bankruptcy and taken properties from widows. Run don't walk away from this place. If you don't believe me just look at the open lawsuits in Peach Court in Bryan County GA."
