Established in 1997, Taberna is one of the few New Bern NC golf courses is located just five minutes from downtown New Bern and offers a traditional country club lifestyle. The 1,100 acre neighborhood borders the Croatan National Forest and Brices Creek which connects to the Neuse River. Buyers searching for coastal retirement communities will enjoy Taberna because of the nearby quality medical care, great schools and friendly neighbors. The established golf community is located about 40 miles west of the Outer Banks beaches. Cherry Point Marine Air Station and Coastal Carolina Regional Airport are less than 15 minutes from the entrance of the community's entrance.

Taberna's 18 hole championship golf course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Jim Lipe. Spacious tree lined fairways are accented by new homes in New Bern NC overlooking the golf course. The topography is gentle making it easy for players of all ages to enjoy the course. The community's clubhouse was designed replicating the Swiss Castle of Nydegg. Neighborhood attributes have a Swiss flair; streets named after Swiss villages with decorative street lights and adorned by flags displaying Taberna's coat of arms. Overlooking the golf course, the grand clubhouse provides fine and casual dining, has a pro-shop, and is the social hub of the community. Taberna is one of the nicest New Bern NC golf courses. 

Adjacent to the clubhouse are four lighted Har-Tru tennis courts and junior size Olympic swimming pool. Approximately 2.5 miles of walking trails and sidewalks attractively intertwined within the neighborhood. Community parks with picnic areas, small lakes for fishing, a kayak launch and athletic fields encourage active families to enjoy the outdoors in New Bern NC. Buyers searching for coastal retirement communities will find Taberna's social calendar is filled with active social clubs. Property owners are not required to join the club.

Approximately 800 homes were planned and the majority of homes have already been built. Single family homes for sale at Taberna Country Club start under $200k and a few lots for sale may available under $75k. Taberna Way also has low maintenance townhomes. New homes in New Bern NC feature traditional brick and vinyl exteriors. Creekside Elementary School, H J MacDonald Middle School, New Bern High School and The Epiphany School are the nearby best schools.

New to the club. So far, we feel the clubhouse needs some major upgrades. Worn out appearance overall, inside and out terrible. Food - average at best, small portions, high prices. Won't stay members for long if these issues aren't addressed.

Developed by Weyerhaesuer, construction began in 1997 on Taberna Country Club. The club members took out a loan in 2005 to buy out the golf club and golf course. In January 2011, Textron Financial Corp initiated foreclosure proceedings because the club failed to make a large balloon payment. Taberna Country Club members filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2011 to reorganize the debt according to the Sun Journal. Textron Financial Corp was unwilling to refinance the debt as many lenders have withdrawn from financing golf clubs. The Taberna Country Club is a seperate entity from the master planned community association of Taberna Country Club. Property owners owning in the subdivisions of Taberna Country Club are not required to join the golf club.
