Designed with a resort theme in mind, amenities include a full service marina, golf course, two swimming pools, tennis courts, and a miniature golf. Membership is required to access some of the amenities although the Harbour Pointe Golf Course is open to the public. The north side of the neighborhood is called Harbour Pointe and is a traditional style golf neighborhood. The south side known as Shoreline is centered around the water and deepwater marinas. Many of the cul-de-sacs protrude out into the waterway in the form of penisulars. Access to the Intracoastal Waterway and big water is quick and convenient.
The Outer Banks and Ocracoke Island can be reached by boat in about two hours. Fairfield Harbour's inland location on the Neuse River provides a safe harbor for boaters. Whether it's kayaking, fishing or jet skiing, just about any watersport is available at the marinas. Fairfield Harbour was developed in the mid 1970's. In 1999, the community's golf course was sold to MidSouth Golf LLC. Over the years, there are a number of complaints found on the internet disclosing disputes between MidSouth Golf LLC and the HOA. The Broad Creek Recreation Center is owned and managed by both HOA's.
