VOLUNTEERISM AND GIVING BACK

Residents of The Cliffs at Glassy, The Cliffs Valley and The Cliffs at Mountain Park communities recently came together to host the 12th Annual Rummage and Bake Sale that raised more than $26,000 for the Glassy Mountain Fire Department (GMFD). The Rummage and Bake Sale, which has been a signature community event for more than a decade, has raised a net total of $232,605 since its founding in 2002.

Co-chairs for this year’s Rummage Sale, Assistant Chief Bryan Bailey and GMFD Commissioner Dick Dusa, expressed their gratitude to all involved:  “The years of dedicated support by The Cliffs’ volunteers helped make this year’s sale another great success. There were hundreds of volunteer hours donated to this event, and the profit of $26,000 is a direct result of their commitment and dedication,” stated Bailey and Dusa.

David Sawyer, Managing Partner for The Cliffs Clubs, states, “In a community known for its lifestyle, it is heartwarming to see philanthropic efforts like these added to what The Cliffs residents are known for. When we give back to our community, we benefit everyone.”

The process starts about six months before the sale with volunteers collecting, sorting and pricing all donations.  The Cliffs’ residents and GMFD employees and volunteers then set up, staff the sale, and sell hundreds of items.

The funds from the sale are held in the Glassy Mountain Fire Foundation and are used to help purchase and upgrade the necessary and in some cases technologically-advanced equipment and special gear for GMFD staff that allows them to provide better services to the residents in the fire service area.  Items not sold during the Rummage Sale were donated to several local charitable organizations, including Wounded Warrior Project, The Salvation Army, Miracle Hill Ministries and Goodwill.

The Glassy Mountain Fire Department services a large portion of the fire districts in Greenville County, including Slater Marietta, North Greenville, Tigerville, Lake Cunningham, Gowensville, Foothills, River Falls, No Millage and Glassy Mountain Fire Districts.

Plans for the next GMFD Rummage Sale, slated to take place spring 2017, are already underway.
