National Tennis Championship Returns to Daniel Island

For the 15th year a premier WTA event, the Family Circle Cup, returns to Charleston on April 4-12, 2015. As the City of Charleston and Daniel Island prepare for one of the oldest traditions in women’s tennis, spring envelopes one of the best neighborhoods in Charleston SC. With 23 miles of shoreline, traditional southern neighborhoods and bountiful parks, Daniel Island was the perfect place for construction of the 18-court Family Circle Tennis Stadium and facilities. The prestigious Family Circle Cup tournament, started in 1973 and sponsored by Family Circle Magazine, was the first women’s tennis event to offer significant prize money. Past tournament champions include a Who’s Who of female tennis stars including Tracy Austin, Jennifer Capriati, Chris Evert, Steffi Graf, Justine Henin, Martina Hingis, Martina Navratilova, Gabriela Sabatini, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Caroline Wozniacki.

Charleston is at the top of the list of South Carolina destinations, so pack up your tennis togs and head to Daniel Island for this exciting Women’s Tennis Association tournament. Match play begins on Monday the 6th, but there will be plenty of excitement and fun happening over the opening weekend.

Sat. 4/4 – Qualifying Rounds begin, gates open at 9:00 a.m. and play begins at 10:00 a.m. At 3:00 p.m. join WTA players on the Grand Lawn for the Draw Ceremony, where player names will be pulled from the Champions trophy to decide who will battle whom on the courts.

Sat. 4/4 - Sun. 4/5 – More Qualifying Rounds and lots of food and fun at Family Weekend, featuring face painting, magicians, balloon art, jump castles, a climbing wall and Easter egg hunt on Sunday. Kids under 12 admitted free.

Mon. 4/6 – More Qualifying and 1st Round match play.

Tue. 4/7 – 1st & 2nd Rounds and plenty of action off the courts. Grab the girls and enjoy Ladies Day for world-class tennis, shopping, beauty, wine & cheese and more. Or, order tickets for the Improve Your Serve Luncheon, with entertainment maven Natalie Dupree and a panelist of experts helping you score at your next at-home soiree. Finally, see and be seen from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Ketel One Racquet Club on the Grand Lawn for music, adult beverages and more fun. Wed. 4/8 – 3rd Round match play and Pink Out Night for the Cure from 7:00-10:00 p.m., benefiting Susan G. Komen® for the Cure Lowcountry. Wear pink through the gates on Wednesday and the Family Circle Cup will donate to the Komen foundation to help fight cancer.

Thur. 4/9 – 4th Round match play. Then, from 7:00-10:00 p.m., it’s Military Appreciation Night, presented by Prudential. Join us to honor those who serve in our nation’s Armed Forces. Family Circle Cup is proud to extend free admission to all active-duty and retired military and their families, in gratitude.

Fri. 4/10 – Quarterfinals! Don’t miss the action on Suntrust Night for interactive court fun and the crowd-pleasing Ball Toss!

Sat. 4/11 – Semifinals, beginning at 10:45 a.m.

Sun. 4/12 – Finals. Doubles begins at 10:45 a.m. with singles finals following.
