If you enjoy gardening, flowers, and growing your own food, then there is great news out of the beautiful town of Greenville SC. Considered by many the best city in South Carolina to live, Greenville has just announced its community gardens initiative. Aimed at residents who wants to grow their own gardens, but lack the private property to do so, the community gardens will provide them with the necessities for planting.

With the initiative, the county plans to install a 48-bed garden (featuring 4x8 foot raised beds) at East Riverside Park in Greer and a 42-bed garden at The Pavilion Recreation Complex in Taylors. County residents must pay $50 a year for a raised bed, while out-of-county residents must pay $60 a year. As part of the program, the county will provide water, a community compost bin and a mix of organic compost from Atlas Organics and organic topsoil from Southern Mulch. The two gardens will be open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week. Participants will be allowed to plant their beds year round but must cover it in the winter if left unplanted.

Folks fond of gardening are likely aware of the health benefits of having a green thumb. Not only does gardening provide you with fresh air, sunshine, and a good bit of exercise, it allows you to grow your own fresh fruits and wholesome vegetables. And at harvest time, you can take your crop to a farmers market, make some extra cash, or trade your goods with other local growers in the area.

In fact, Greenville has a thriving scene of public garden spaces, many within master planned lake communities. These gardens are great places for people to meet, socialize, and share their garden knowledge. Folks searching for the healthiest and best city in South Carolina to live, will find some of the finest lake communities near Greenville. The Cliffs' master planned communities feature seven different neighborhoods surrounded by Blue Ridge Mountains, each with its own unique style and shared amenities. And thanks to The Cliffs' five-acre organic farm, complete with greenhouses and open fields, residents and members are blessed with their own freshly homegrown farm to table produce. On the farm, farmer Craig Weiner grows produce for superior flavor, using no GMOs, and only works with natural pesticides and fertilizers. And rather than trek to a farmers market in downtown, produce at The Cliffs makes its way to resident’s tables.

At the community's Carolina Smokehouse, residents and guests can enjoy fresh and fascinating dishes made from seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, many of them from the Cliffs Organic Farm, featuring heirloom varieties of Tuscan kale, Japanese turnips, Romanesco purple cauliflower and many other fruits and vegetables. The Cliffs is a foodie community. Recently, they held their annual IMBEBE Food & Wine Festival, a 10 day culinary extravaganza. The Cliffs has almost two dozen dining venues among the seven gated communities in the Western Carolinas.

The Cliffs’ own Executive Sous Chef Todd Warden, along with teammates Kevin Furmanek, Executive Chef of The Cliffs at Mountain Park, and Scott Denomme, Sous Chef of The Cliffs Valley, walked  away as the regional winner of the annual Competition Dining Series in Greenville series.

Located just 30 minutes from Greenville, The Cliffs is a collection of seven premier private, luxury residential mountain and lake communities located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Western Carolinas, between two of the nation’s top award-winning cities for quality of life – Greenville, S.C. and Asheville, N.C. – and Clemson, S.C. – home to top-ranked Clemson University.

The Cliffs’ suite of amenities for members includes seven clubs, seven nationally recognized championship golf courses, six wellness centers, boating, watersports, marina, beach club, cycling, paddle sports, tennis complexes, equestrian center, hiking trails, wakeboarding, wine clubs, 50 restaurant and private event venues, an organic farm and more than 4,000 year-round social activities to create timeless experiences.
