One of the cool things about living in one of the best gated communities in coastal South Carolina is Hilton Head Lakes’ convenient location. Residents enjoy quick access to Savannah, Charleston and Hilton Head Island, and are minutes away from fun things to do in Bluffton and Hilton Head, South Carolina. Here is a sampling of some of the fun (and tasty) festivals and events happening this fall in the Lowcountry:

Saturday, October 4 – Hilton Head Burgers and Brews Festival

Cast your vote for the best slider prepared by local restaurants and taste 20 different brewskies in the beer garden. Live music, a big screen TV for football fans, and The Kid Zone games and bounce houses provide entertainment for the whole family. Admission is $6 for anyone over the age of 10. Little ones are free. 

Sunday, October 12 - Sunday, October 19 – 10th Annual Historic Bluffton Arts and Seafood Festival

Soak up the culture, history and art that makes Bluffton, SC, so unique and welcoming during this week-long festival in the heart of Bluffton’s charming historic district. The festival, which showcases locally harvested seafood and delicious Low Country cuisine, finishes on the 18th and 19th with Streetfest, where you’ll find treasures at the juried fine art show and enjoy local food specialties provided by area restaurants and caterers, and music, music, music (see below). 

Saturday, November 1 – Bluffton International & Craft Beer Fest

Sample over 150 unique beers from around the world and American craft breweries in Historic Downtown Bluffton, South Carolina, at The Calhoun Street Promenade. In addition to lagers, pilsners and stouts, enjoy food, live music, and visit an array of coffee, chocolate and cigar purveyors. Tickets are $20 in advance / $25 at the door. This green event benefits the Palmetto Animal League.

Sunday, October 12 – The 21st Annual Polo for Charity

Fun for the whole family – a Lowcountry afternoon of polo, tailgating, divot stomping and plenty of horsing around at historic Rose Hill Plantation in Bluffton. The Rotary Club of Okatie coordinates this fun-filled charitable event. Tickets are $15 in advance / $20 at the door. Kids under 12 admitted free. 

Saturday, November 1 - Sunday, November 2 – Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival and Councours d’Elegance

Spend the first weekend in November drooling over some of the country's finest collector automobiles at Port Royal Golf Club next to The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa on Hilton Head Island. If the roar of the engines is what gets your motor going, spend the prior weekend at the Savannah Speed Classic and experience Grand Prix style road racing. Test drives, hot lap rides, off roading, and pit access are available for the true gearhead. 

Thursday, November 6, - Saturday, November 8 – Special Olympics National Invitational Tennis Championship

Come cheer on the athletes and their coaches from around the county at the 15th annual Special Olympics tennis championship tournament at Van der Meer Shipyard Resort, Hilton Head Island, SC. Matches are free to the public.

Saturday, September 6 and Saturday, October 25 – “Pickin’ By The River”

Bring your banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, or bass to play, or just come to listen to this all-acoustic bluegrass, country and folk music event hosted by the Low Country and Acoustic Musicians at Waterfront Park in Beaufort from noon to 5:00 p.m. The free festival features open jams throughout the park and stage performances. Friday, October 3 - Saturday and Sunday October 4 – Beaufort Shrimp Festival

Celebrate all things shrimp and dance the night away at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park in downtown Beaufort to the sounds of The Company band on Friday night. Saturday entertainment includes The Brewer Band and The Bull Grapes. In addition to live music, the festival includes food and beverage booths, arts & crafts market, Gullah history, a 5K Bridge Run/Walk & Popcorn Shrimp Run, adult shrimp heading & children shrimp peeling contests, and Sea Island Rotary Club’s Charity Shrimp Race. Admission to the festival is free. 

Sunday, October 12 - Sunday, October 19 – 10th Annual Historic Bluffton Arts and Seafood Festival  

In addition to food and art, the Bluffton Arts and Seafood Festival features music, music, music! Hear local and regional talent sing and play Rock, Blues, Roots, Beach, Jazz, and Bluegrass on three stages. Bring your dancing shoes.
