In perfect time for the iconic fall season of golf, The Cliffs announced today that it has completed a three-month long renovation process, investing more than $525,000 to enhance its two most mature, award-winning championship golf courses: The Cliffs at Glassy and The Cliffs Valley.

“We are excited about the recent enhancement to The Cliffs at Glassy practice facility. For agronomic reasons this was a big step to help us manage our traffic, but the fun part is we now have a practice area that better replicates the experience to be had on the course,” stated Brian Peeples, The Cliffs’ Director of Golf. “In addition to Glassy, we created and recently opened a first-class short game area at The Cliffs Valley to provide our Members a well-rounded practice experience.”

The Cliffs at Glassy practice facility underwent a total rebuild, increasing tee space from 18,000 square feet to 31,000 square feet. Glassy’s practice facility also includes a new short game green with surrounding chipping and pitching areas to help players simulate shots on the course.  A tee rebuild was also completed with new drainage irrigation and mix. New features of the facility include a green side practice bunker complex, and target greens as well as fairway bunkers in the landing area. The exposed granite in the landing areas will also simulate a look and feel similar to if the golfer was on the actual course.

A Tom Jackson-designed golf course, The Cliffs at Glassy opened in 1994 on one of the highest mountaintops in South Carolina and was immediately ranked the fourth most scenic course in the nation by Golf Digest in 1995. It features bent grass from tee to green at an elevation over 3,000 feet. The Cliffs at Glassy is continuously recognized as one of the top ten golf courses in South Carolina.

The Cliffs Valley invested $125,000 to update its practice facility, including a new short game area, a 3,000-square-foot green and two new green side practice bunker complexes. A total area re-grade was also completed to allow for rolling bump and run shots, to simulate what golfers may experience on an actual course, as well as new irrigation for the entire complex.

The first American course designed by world-renowned golf commentator Ben Wright, The Cliffs Valley provides a parkland-style layout recognized among the Best New Courses by Golf Digest.

The Glassy and Valley practice facilities are a part of The Cliffs’ nationally acclaimed golf experience, in which members enjoy seven championship courses under a single membership, complemented by a first-in-class team of golf professionals, instructors and course maintenance professionals.
