17th Annual Taste of Beaufort South Carolina

One of the top Lowcountry festivals is set to kick off the first weekend in May and locals couldn’t be more excited. The Taste of Beaufort is a sensory trifecta. The scenic beauty of the seaside village, savory flavors from the sea and sweet melodies tickling our ears create fond memories year after year.  

Area restaurants will showcase Beaufort’s seafood delights which include Shrimp & Grits, a Lowcountry Boil and the sweetest oysters in the south. The sights include Beaufort’s historic waterfront and art created by local artists and crafters, a seaside village which was named “One of South Carolina’s Most Charming Small Towns” by Vogue last month. 

Local and regional bands will provide the region’s favorite sounds on the Pavilion stage during the festival. The Taste of Beaufort and festivals like it are what gives historic Beaufort its charm and helps make it one of the beach communities in South Carolina. Here’s what to expect:

FRIDAY - MAY 6  

At 7pm, Deas Guyz takes the stage and performs until 10pm. The band features an entertaining mix of Old Motown, R&B, Pop, Rock, Reggae and dance beats. The range of musical selections includes Motown sounds of the Temptations, The Drifters, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye; Bob Marley classics; the Lover’s Rock style of Gregory Isaacs and Dennis Brown; to the Hip-Hop sounds of Lauren Hill and R. Kelly. 

SATURDAY - MAY 7

8am - Festivities kick off early with the Taste of Beaufort 5K Bridge Run/Walk, starting at 8:00 AM on Bay at Newcastle Streets. The run passes through historic downtown Beaufort, with its beautiful tree covered streets and crosses over the famous Woods Memorial Bridge. The registration fee for the event includes a t-shirt to the first 300 participants.  

11am-  The Sweetgrass Angels performs their classic 3-part harmonies from the 40’s through today. This female trio also sings country and gospel. Their show runs until 12:30pm.

1pm - The Brewer Band takes the stage. The Brewer Band is known for their eclectic set lists often playing songs other cover bands don't play- and they like it that way! When you see them live, you'll hear a little bit of country, a little bit of rock, disco, pop, and a whole lot of musical fun! The Brewer Band performs until 2:30pm. 

3pm – 5pm - The Melody Makers Band will perform. This group came of age during rock and roll’s heyday in the 1960’s. Now, with the revival of the sounds of the 60’s, the band continues to be in demand and more popular than ever. They still entertain audiences with songs of romantic joy, fun-loving melodies and irresistible beats.

Children's games and activities, the Arts & Crafts Market and food vendors begin at 11 a.m. and last through the afternoon. Seafood, barbecue, ice-cream and other treats will be served. Here’s a list of some of the participating restaurants near many of the new homes in Beaufort SC:

Dozens of arts and crafts vendors plan to sell their handmade, original goods all day on Saturday. 

Great events, like the Taste of Beaufort have helped South Carolina undergo immense growth in the last three decades, thanks to retirees seeking a warmer climate and lower cost of living. Beach communities in South Carolina are another big draw.
