BEST PLACES TO LIVE IN NORTH CAROLINA

In 2015, North Carolina saw record numbers of brand new residents moving into the area. Most came to escape the bitter cold of northern states, and settle on the warm Atlantic coast of North Carolina. Fortunately, this lead to record sales of new homes in Southport NC, in one of the most exclusive North Carolina coastal communities. And with the trend in winter weather (think Snowpocalypse, 2016), we can expect further migration to the warmth of the southeast.

One beneficiary of this trend has been St. James Plantation, a gated community with stunning new homes in Southport NC. The community is a great escape from unbearable winter weather, with championship golf, a private marina, and a beach club on the ocean. In 2015, St. James Plantation sold a record number of homes, with $60 million in sales, and more than $80 million in new home construction. By the numbers alone, this is one of the most desirable North Carolina coastal communities.

And if those numbers aren't enough, recent months have set the bar with several other records. As of 2016, St. James Plantation boasts:

  • 279 new families welcomed in 2015, accounting for $59.2 million in sales
  • 196 new home starts (2015), representing a capital investment of $80 million
  • 150 homes currently under construction, with 50 more in the pipeline for the first quarter of 2016
  •  a three-year total of 825 home sales, for a total of $170 million
  • a record 4,000 residents

Staking its claim as one of the best North Carolina coastal communities, St. James Plantation offers more than new homes in Southport NC. The community sets the standard for a luxurious southern lifestyle. Residents enjoy tennis, swimming, a fitness center, and 15 miles of nature trails. If you like to be pampered, enjoy private steam rooms, saunas, and afternoons at the exclusive beach club. The marina features wet slips and private dry boat storage, with easy access to the Intracoastal waterway. And there are more than 18 holes to be played at the St. James golf course.

In fact, the St. James golf course has a staggering total of 81 holes, 4 1/2 separate courses set amongst sweeping coastal landscapes. Clubhouses feature practice greens, driving ranges, first-class dining, and all of your golfing needs. If you live for golf, then there's no better place in North Carolina than at the St. James golf course.

Home styles in St. James Plantation come in wonderful shapes and sizes. There are wooded homesites, waterfront cottages, and cozy condominiums. Plantation homes with sprawling yards are great for active families, while smaller flats for cozy couples sit by the marina. Whether you prefer to live lakeside, on 1/3 of an acre, or by a private beach, St. James Plantation has a place for you to call your home. Homes for sale start as low as in the mid $300k's, while estate homes list from the mid $500k's to upwards of $1 million.

Living in Southport, North Carolina is nothing short of blissful. And according to Coastal Living Magazine, Southport is America's #1 Happiest Seaside Town (2015). Residents of Seaport are generally happy, easy-going people, who enjoy the beaches, waterfront views, and magnificent southern weather. The area offers great sailing, fishing, romantic sunsets, and other outdoor activities. And there are plenty of other great communities all along the coast.

So if you are tired of bitter winter weather, and ready for some fun in the sun, you should head to Southport, North Carolina and check out the new homes. Spring is a great time to explore homes in St. James Plantation, and play a game of golf or rent a boat from the marina.
