River Dunes Celebrates Opening of New First Responder Fire Station

Fall is a time for celebration, and the owners in the waterfront community of River Dunes have had a lot to celebrate this season in Oriental North Carolina.  Residents from far and wide returned to the community for the Annual Homecoming Weekend and Owners Meeting on the weekend of October 24-26.  Mother Nature provided a warm, sunny weekend for all the festivities, many of which were held outdoors in various locations.  The weekend activities kicked off with a picnic supper held in the backyard of a residence with beautiful views of Mill and Broad Creeks.  Guests enjoyed the sunset while gathered around the backyard outdoor fireplace, a feature enjoyed by many homes in the boating community.

Saturday began with an early tennis round-robin on the brand new Har-tru courts.  After breakfast, the Property Owners Annual Meeting was held in the private Harbor Club located directly on River Dunes 400 slip protected marina, an award winning marina for sailing surrounding waterfront homes in North Carolina.  Following an al fresco lunch at another resident’s home, owners gathered at the new Volunteer Fire Department Sub-station, located just across the road from River Dunes community entrance, a neighborhood of waterfront homes in North Carolina. An enthusiastic and appreciative group of owners enjoyed a presentation by the local Fire Chief about the services that will be provided by this new station to the entire area, including River Dunes. Six of the community's residents have volunteered as first responders for the fire station which demonstrates how invested River Dunes property owners are in supporting their neighbors throughout the Pamlico County area.

 

Other activities on Saturday included clay shooting on the riverside, tours of the property by helicopter, cruises on River Dunes restored 1948 wooden boat, “Miss Grace”, and an art show.  The day wrapped up with a wine and cheese reception at a home overlooking Pamlico Sound, followed by a traditional Down East oyster roast and dancing on the lawn at the Harbor Club.

Sunday featured a quiet time of reflection and thanksgiving in Grace Chapel, adjacent to the harbor, and a Decorator Open House at a one of the Harbor Village homes. built by one of the new home builders.
