Art lovers clear your calendars. This weekend is a great opportunity to behold artists in their studios and learn about their work in Asheville where creativity flows along the railroad tracks since 1985 when the Highwater Clays Company bought the first warehouse building int the area. Since then, artists have been converting the old industrial buildings into work studios, workshops and art galleries. The River Arts District Studio Stroll is one of the best times to take a stroll and takes place on May 21st and 22nd from 10am – 6pm near the best neighborhoods to live in Asheville. Visitors can get up close, meet the artists and learn more about their work. During the event, participants can take part in:

  • Live demonstrations
  • Hands-on workshops
  • Conversations with artists

It all happens in one of the best neighborhoods to live in Asheville, just a stone’s throw from the Blue Ridge Parkway. River Arts District Studio Stroll attendees will see amazing displays of artistry and creativity including:

  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Glassblowing
  • Wheel throwing
  • Wood turning
  • Fiber art
  • Jewelry

There are more than 180 artists in a mile-long network of historic mill and warehouse buildings along the river. The Studio Stroll is free and self-guided. Many studios are within walking distance of each other, and there is plenty of free parking. Go home with new ideas, gifts for friends and even something special for yourself. Free trolleys run approximately every 15 minutes throughout the mile long district during Studio Stroll hours.

In addition to the Studio Stroll, there is also a Burners and Barbecue Music and Street Art Festival. More than 50 mural artists from all over the country transform an old gray industrial site at 304 Lyman Street into a giant mural.

On May 21st and 22nd, there’s a fundraiser benefiting the Foundation Art & Skate Park. It’s close to the area where the giant mural will be created.  The park, called the Foundation Sport, is built on the concrete slab floor of a dismantled warehouse. This event features skateboarding exhibitions and contests, music, food and beer. If you miss this River Arts District Studio Stroll, it is scheduled again November 12-23, 2016.
