Great News and Upcoming Events at River Dunes

River Dunes boating community
Published on July 14, 2016

On the quaint banks of the Neuse River, you’ll find one of the loveliest North Carolina coastal communities, Oriental nicknamed "The Sailing Capital of North Carolina” because sailboats outnumber residents three to one. Residents consider it one of the best small towns to retire because they love the daily fun of coastal living, and all the wonderful things to do both on and off the water.

There are many great neighborhoods throughout the coastal Carolinas, but for its elegant two story Harbor Club overlooking the Grace Harbor Marina, friendly property owners and comprehensive on-shore facilities, River Dunes is always on top of our list as a best boating community. Whether folks love kayaking and canoeing on lazy creeks, or sailing a yacht out on the Pamlico Sound, the residents at River Dunes share our love for boating.

In fact, at River Dunes they have a knack for big boating events. Coming up at River Dunes this year are:

Windmill Regatta

July 14 - 17, 2016

River Dunes is proud to host the 2016 Windmill Nationals in Grace Harbor July 14 through 17.  Races will begin on Friday, July 15 at 10:30 a.m. and conclude on Sunday, July 17 at 9:00 a.m.  There are 24 of these fast sailboats signed up for the race, and the race is being officiated by the Oriental Dinghy Club.

Oriental Dragon Boat Races in Grace Harbor

August 13 - 14, 2016

Grace Harbor at River Dunes is delighted to be hosting the 2016 Oriental Dragon Boat Festival. The races will be held on Saturday, August 13th, with a practice day on Friday, August 12th. Teams of 20 rowers plus a drummer and steersperson, representing various charities, will be arriving to paddle these decorated flat water canoes in the protected waters of the marina.

In addition to the races, there will be food and other vendors, a team parade, and the traditional dotting of the Dragon’s Eye.

Harborfest & The Oriental Cup Regatta

September 16 - 18, 2016

Hosted and sponsored by River Dunes, Harborfest for Heartworks will feature some wonderful events on Friday evening and during the day on Saturday, highlighted by a Gala Dinner Dance on Saturday evening. In conjunction with the Harborfest activities, the Oriental Cup Regatta will be going on on the great sailing waters just off River Dunes Marina. It is a great opportunity to join the sailing community and support a local non-profit that provides services to the children and families of Pamlico County while enjoying two of our favorite things to do in coastal NC – getting on the water and having fun! If you love sailing, fishing, and life on the water without the hustle and bustle of a big city, Oriental is hard to beat and on the short list of best small towns to retire on the coast.

There has also some great news this summer about this award winning boating community. In July 2016, River Dunes was featured in Southern Living Magazine, which praised the new neighborhood known as Boathouse Row. Boathouse Row is a row of charming cottages alongside Grace Harbor, which offer:

• Six cottage-style floor plans from 2,300-2,500 sq. ft.

• Downstairs master bedroom and bath

• Second floor guest suites

• Spacious porches with marina views

• Optional garage plans

• All just a short walk to the amenities of Harbor Village

The amenities of Harbor Village include the Harbor Club and restaurant, a resort-style swimming pool with two Jacuzzis and two outdoor fireplaces, guest cottages, and a small picturesque chapel.  For all of this and more, Southern Living named Boathouse Row an "Inspired Community.” It was won Best of the Best Boating Communities by Ideal-Living.

Still early in development, there a nice variety of homes and homesites available at River Dunes. If you plan to build a home, why not choose a waterfront homesite just off the Pamlico Sound. River Dunes is among the few North Carolina coastal communities with waterfront property for sale in a master planned community. Current listings in River Dunes include .86 acre waterfront lots beginning in the low $300’s, and 1.2 acre waterfront lots in the high $500's. Come with your boat, build your dream home, make warm new friends, and settle down in one of America's best small towns to retire, Oriental.

Summer and Fall are popular times of the year to explore North Carolina coastal communities, so why not visit River Dunes during one of their fun upcoming boating events.
