The brewery craze begins with Asheville’s New Belgium Brewery, a $150 million brewery plan set to be built within the River Arts District. With its Sierra Nevada plant located beside the Asheville Regional Airport in Henderson County almost finished, New Belgium is now one of three major national breweries in Western North Carolina. Construction is set to be completed in 2015, and will produce 500,000 barrels of beer annually; employing over 140 workers.

On Saturday, January 25th, the best beer and breweries in Asheville teamed up for the 7th Annual Winter Warmer Beer Festival. The Civic Center event featured breweries such as Aviator, Bear Waters, Red Brick, Highland, and French Broad; with guest appearances from Surly Brewing and Big Storm. Live music and local caterers crowded the arena floor, as participants wet their palettes with the finest lagers in the West.

The Winter Warmer Beer Festival Event was a sold out event for the past five years, and this year was no different with Ashville’s best beer and breweries alongside. Highlights included performances by Brushfire Stankgrass and Dave Desmelik while Asheville Brewing, Co. showcased their new brewer series including a jalapeño infused Fire Escape!
