The Balsam Mountain Trust has reached for the skies in its latest community events centered on the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Sponsored by the Great Smoky Mountains Association, and organized by executive director Michael Skinner, members of the private North Carolina Mountain community Balsam Mountain Preserve are invited to sign up for an experience of a lifetime at “Heads Up for Hunters of the Sky” and “Jewels From the Sky”.

Balsam Mountain Preserve has bridged the gap between nature and community with its implementation of the Balsam Mountain Trust. The non-profit organization assists in the protection and management of the 75% of land that is a permanent conservation easement on the preserve. After all, this private North Carolina Mountain community is not only next to one of the greatest wonders in the North America, but it is situated within it!

Balsam Mountain Preserve hiking trails lead out to an adventure in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the master-planned community’s convenient location near the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance offers endless exploration and unique wildlife sightings just outside property owner's front door.

Apart from maintaining the magnificent flora and fauna, the Balsam Mountain Trust organizes a collection of arts, science, and wildlife programs to educate and inspire residents to ‘get back’ to nature. Thirty-five successful scientific research programs have been held by the Balsam Mountain Trust; including an inspirational session aimed towards artists from around the world. This months sequence features close encounters with rare birds of prey, and a beauty often unseen in its natural element.

You're invited to get up close and personal with a few of the Smokey Mountain’s very own birds-of prey. In between lively discussions and exciting facts, participants will meet Freedom the American bald eagle, Rasta the screech owl, Rusty and Chayton the kestrels, Zeus the aerial hawk, and many more. The “Heads Up for Hunters of the Sky” event will be held on Thursday, February 6th, in the Oconaluftee Multipurpose Room located at the Cherokee, N.C. entrance to the park; only a 50 minute ride from Balsam Mountain Preserve hiking trails near the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance. The event is limited to the first 50 participants that sign up before February 5th.

Accompanying this exciting one-of-a-kind event is “Jewels From the Sky” presented by Kris Light, an in-depth exploration into the unique crystals that fall within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. No two snowflakes are alike, and “Jewels From the Sky” dives further into the different snow flake formations that make up our winter wonderlands. The event will be held on Saturday, Febuary 22nd, in the Sugarlands Visitor Center Training Room near Gatlinburg, TN. This event is also limited to the first 50 members to register. GSMA members can attend the event for only $10, and the cost is $35 for nonmembers, with the opportunity for a personal or gift membership.

The homes at Balsam Mountain Preserve offer the best of nature and community. This private North Carolina Mountain community will bring you back to the great outdoors with unlimited Balsam Mountain Preserve hiking trails winding through scenic mountain views. Equestrian trails, a world-class golf course, and a premium nature center are only a few of the amenities that inspire residents of the master-planned community. Near the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance, a luxury home in the great outdoors awaits. Its 4,400 acres with a 3,000 acre preserve gives every resident that feeling of tranquility and freedom in a community dedicated to maintaining the natural beauty that surrounds Balsam Mountain Preserve.
