Just as Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of the summer, Labor Day signals the end of the dog days of summer. And there’s no better way for North Georgia retirement communities to say so long to the summer than with a classic outdoor cookout in a place with beautiful views overlooking a Hartwell golf course and surrounded by friendly people.

This Saturday, September 3rd, Currahee Club is one of those gated communities exuding southern hospitality. Here residents will gather at the Sports Campus for a Labor Day Cookout and more. Food, fun and face painting are just some of the events on tap for the day. From 2pm– 4pm, children can enjoy one of the many planned activities including balloon art. Later in the evening, attendees can take in the sounds of a live performance by singer/songwriter Jared Brooks. The community is private but if you're in the area, call them. They may have space.

This founding Southern Living Inspired Community is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains just south of the South Carolina state line in Georgia. Access to Greenville South Carolina and Atlanta Georgia is quick and easy via Interstate 85. It's here you’ll find luxury mountain and lakefront living with outstanding amenities. Amenities include:

  • 24 Hour Manned Gated Entrance
  • 18 Hole Championship Golf Course designed by Jim Fazio
  • Practice Facility and Putting Greens
  • 48,000 Square Foot Golf Clubhouse with indoor and outdoor dining
  • Currahee Club Amenity Campus with resort-style Swimming Pool, two Tennis Courts and Fitness Center

As one of the newer North Georgia retirement communities, homeowners often rave about the social events at Currahee Club. Its events such as the upcoming Labor Day Cookout that keeps this community connected. And judging from the event calendar, the fun happens all year round.  From the Summer Concert Series to the Fourth of July Fireworks and the TSO Patriotic Pops Concert, there is plenty to do at the club. But undoubtedly one of 2016’s most popular events was the 2nd Annual Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer which took place last month. The sold out event was a huge success! The BBBC has donated nearly $400,000 in the fight against breast cancer since it was founded in 2004 and Currahee Club was excited to participate.

Fortunately, Georgia mountain properties of all styles are still available at the club. With the fall foliage season soon upon us, now is a great time to explore this southern inspired community. Check out lakefront property or homes along the Hartwell golf course. With several of the Southeast’s finest builders to choose from, residents have numerous options on designing and choosing a luxury home that’ll fit their specifications.

Aside from organized social events there are also plenty of other activities such as fishing on and boating on Lake Hartwell, white rafting and waterfall hikes. The lakes also provide for serene backdrops for several televised bass fishing tournaments. In addition, there are several public and private streams.

This is the place for golf lovers. Amateur or avid golfers love taking to the links at the Hartwell golf course. The Jim Fazio designed course is playable for all levels, but players will have to compete with the beautiful 360-degree panoramic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Currahee Club has also received numerous accolades as a championship golf course.
