To kick off the spring, Dahlonega's Bear on the Square Mountain Festival presents another incredible lineup of bluegrass and old-time musicians during its 19th annual celebration on April 18 and 19th, 2015. The music festival features an incredible array of foot stomping music workshops and demonstrations, storytelling, a Gospel jam; and an old-time music dance. The Master Classes for the 2015 festival will be held Sunday, April 19, in the Historic Vickery House, home of the Appalachian Studies Center at the University of North Georgia.

The mountain festival is only one reason that tourists and visitors from around the world are attracted to North Georgia gated communities. The area is also home to five vineyards and Georgia wineries. Dahlonega wineries annually produce around 100 acres of grapes, yielding 23,000 bottled cases and attracts more than 100,000 wine lovers. Dahlonega is repeatedly named one of the best places to retire due to its low cost of living, vibrant activities and scenic mountain settings. Spring time is here and there’s no better time to look around for a home than during the Bear on the Square Mountain Festival.

At an elevation reaching up to 3,200 feet on the west side of Dahlonega, nearby Big Canoe overlooks freshwater lakes while tall hardwoods canopy more than 100 miles of this Georgia gated community’s streets filled with rustic mountain homes. Its amenities include: a 24 hour manned gated entrance, a 27 hole championship golf course designed by Joe Lee with the 9 hole creek course overlooking Lake Sconti, a stunning lodge-style golf clubhouse, indoor heated saline swimming pool and outdoor pool, ten lighted tennis courts and ball fields – soccer, baseball, basketball and bocce ball. And arguably best of all, Big Canoe has 22 miles of dedicated hiking trails gaining the community a 2015 Bliss Award for Best Hiking Community of the Year

On the east side of Dahlonega, the Georgia gated community of the Currahee Club is located close to the breathtaking Tallulah Gorge. Ideally positioned in the mountains and on Lake Hartwell, this serene paradise complete with rustic mountain homes, seems a million miles from the chaos of city life but is close to Greenville and Clemson South Carolina. Amenities include a Sports & Fitness Amenity Campus and award winning championship golf course. The $2.5 million facility includes a resort-style swimming pool, two tennis courts, ball courts, fire pits and more. Currahee Lake Park even has a community boat dock where you can launch a kayak or canoe on Lake Hartwell. The social calendar at Currahee Club is jam packed with fun things to do year round and contributed to its 2015 Bliss Award for Best Georgia Community of the Year.

Marina Bay on Lake Lanier is located to the south of downtown Dahlonega. The rustic mountain homes in this area combine southern hospitality and beauty. This family friendly Georgia gated community is located on the northern shore of Lake Lanier and is anchored by an award winning 14,000 square foot New England-style clubhouse. Other amenities at Marina Bay on Lake Lanier include a tennis village with 3 tournament-level lighted courts and grandstand seating, community parks with playgrounds, benches and walking paths and an outdoor amphitheater and great lawn.

To the north of Dahlonega is Waterfall Club, a Georgia gated community with breathtaking views.  Waterfall Club is a mountain top resort-style private community located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. Its focal point is a spectacular 18-hole mountain golf course with huge elevation variances designed by Scott Pool.  The course features bent grass greens, fairways and tees and is one of only two courses in Georgia with that distinction.  Waterfall Club also has a 52,000 square foot athletic center complete with a sauna, steam room, spa junior Olympic swimming pool, indoor tennis, basketball and much more. Property owners can access Lake Burton via the community's boathouse.

Situated in the heart of Dahlonega is Achasta Golf Club, a semi-private Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. The 6955-yard, par-72 course, winds along and across the Chestatee River. The scenic course crosses this famous river not once, but seven times including the unique fifth hole, which plays entirely on an island in the river. This Georgia gated community is filled with rustic mountain homes, fresh mountain air, refreshing waterfalls and interesting hiking trails along the Chestatee River.
