All American Fun in Dahlonega

Coming this summer to Dahlonega, GA, is the annual fun-filled 4th of July Independence Day Celebration. This year, Dahlonega is planning more festivities, fireworks, delicious foods, and entertainment than ever before. If you have never been to Dahlonega, it is one of the most beautiful mountain towns in the Southeast, with a charming main-street, welcoming people, and spectacular natural scenery.

For the 4th of July Celebration, the city has a number of great activities for you to enjoy. These include:

  • The Firecracker 5k/10k Run - The 5th Annual Firecracker 5K/10K takes you on a scenic tour of Historic Downtown Dahlonega. Winding your way through the city streets, you will pass scenic Hancock Park and many historic buildings. Winding roads and gently sloping hills guide you through quiet residential streets under the filtered sunlight of Pecan, Oak and Dogwood trees which makes for an enjoyable and peaceful run.

If you are continuing on to the 10K, the terrain becomes a little more challenging with steeper hills but no less scenic.  Registration begins at 6:30 am.Start of Firecracker 5k/10k is 7:30 am. The Cost for entry is $30.

  • The Ace Electric Railroad Trackless Train - Adults and kids alike will love riding on the Ace Railroad Electric Trackless Train while it winds through our Historic Downtown area. Upon your arrival, you can step off the ACE R.R. into a land of adventure for toddlers, kids and adults. Get cooled off on the 13-foot water slide, bounce the afternoon away in the Dalmatian Jump House or Crabcake Activity Center for toddlers.
  • Live Entertainment - This year, downtown Dahlonega will be filled with the sound of live music performances from the Chestatee Ford Stage on the Visitors Center Plaza. Dance the day away while you wait for the next exciting activity!
  • Adventure Zone - Are you a big kid? Then make your way to Adventure Zone, and wander through the 36-foot obstacle course or slide down the 18-foot slide. Test your skills on the Home Run Derby Game or the Mini All-Star Basketball Challenge. “Big Kids” will also like taking a chance conquering the 24-foot auto belay rock-wall or a spin on the Power Jump Bungee Trampoline.
  • The All American Market - The All American Market features traditional crafts and one-of-a-kind, handmade items available for purchase directly from regional artists and craftspeople, all made in the U.S.A. Adjacent from the Chestatee Ford Stage featuring live entertainment, you can take your time shopping while strolling through the All American Market while listening to some great music.
  • Patriotic Ceremony - Dahlonega has a rich military history, and hopes you will join them to celebrate America’s day of independence at our 4th of July Patriotic Ceremony. The ceremony will include beautiful musical performances by the North Georgia Men’s Quarter, the Presentation of Colors, and a speech from our keynote speaker. ​The Patriotic Ceremony will be held on the Chestatee Ford Stage located on the Visitors Center Plaza at 12:00pm.
  • Pet Show and Expo - Cheer on Dahlonega’s cutest residents at the Pet Show & Expo, featuring a pet talent show, fashion show, demonstrations, and obedience class. While there, visit the pet-themed vendor booths to grab a gift and enter FREE raffles for your furry friends! Demonstrations include: Canine Drill team, Disc dogs, Rally-O, READ dogs!
  • Classic Car Show - Check out the craftsmanship and beauty of over 150 restored classic cars at the Gold City Classic Car Show, featuring some of the finest cars in North Georgia.The Car Show will take place from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Lumpkin County Library parking lot on East Main Street. 
  • 4th of July Parade - Dahlonega’s 4th of July Parade is always a crowd favorite! The parade will start at Memorial Drive and circle through the historic square beginning around 5:00pm. All of the participants will have a patriotic theme to celebrate Independence Day.

After the parade, get ready for an epic American fireworks display. Head over to the University of North Georgia "Lipp" Livsey Drill Field with your blankets and chairs, where there will be hot dogs, snacks, and beverages for sale beginning at 6 PM. The fireworks will begin shortly after the sun goes down.

During the celebration, chances are that you'll be well impressed with Dahlonega. While there, you can take some time to check out local master planned communities. In and around the city, there are golf communities, nature trails, vineyards, parks, and friendly neighborhoods.
