Days shorten in the cooler months and one of the tastiest seasons is soon upon us in the Fall. Stone Crab Season. Stone Crabs are one of Florida's most famous edible products. These mouthwatering crustaceans are primarily harvested near one of the best Florida retirement cities. Naples. Located on the Southwestern Coast of Florida, a Naples, Florida retirement is a culinary dream come true for crab lovers; the Stone Crab season runs from October 15-May 15. The cities of Everglades City and Naples celebrate the opening of Stone Crab Season with events in September and October. Everglades City is considered the center of the Stone Crab Universe. Located less than an hour south of Naples, this City celebrates the opening of the season with the blessing of the fleet. The event is scheduled for September 26, 2015 from  10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Rod & Gun Club Lodge, 200 Riverside Drive, Everglades City, FL 34139

The annual blessing of the fleet happens at noon on the banks of the Barron River. Other activities at this free annual event include:

• The Annual Coconut Guava Cake Baking Contest
• Stone crab art contest
• A frog jumping contest
• Face painting
• Arts and Crafts booths
• Music

On October 23-25, Naples, Florida hosts the Annual Stone Crab Festival launching Crab Season into full swing. The event is free and starts Friday, October 23 with the Ceremonial Cracking of the Claw at Pinchers Crab Shack on the Old Naples Waterfront.  The 6th annual Stone Crab Festival features world class seafood restaurants, live music, arts and crafts vendors and fun for the whole family. Restaurants Kelly's Fish House, Bayside Seafood and Grill and Pinchers Crab Shack are all in the area and featuring all manner of Stone Crab dishes. Other activities included in the festival:
