Mountain Biking Mecca - The Foothills of North Carolina
Published on June 13, 2016

Hidden in the foothills of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, is a little adventure town that you've probably never heard of. Recently however, word has gotten out about Lenoir North Carolina, thanks to Google choosing it for a brand new data center. Just one hour and twenty minutes from the heart of thriving Asheville, Lenoir is a quiet town of 18,000 friendly people. Here you can enjoy mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, fly fishing, and other outdoor adventures in the beautiful Blue Ridge foothills. For those that do live in Lenoir, in charming rustic mountain homes, it is considered one the best places to live in North Carolina.

Not far from Lenoir is Wilson Creek Wilderness Area, with 49,000 acres of forests to explore. Known as one of North Carolina's adventure destinations, Wilson Creek offers camping, kayaking, hunting and fishing, off-road driving and more. Throughout the area, there are mountain peaks, crystal streams, and breathtaking waterfalls, perfect for photography or simple nature tours. And if you enjoy white-water rafting, this area features one of the most challenging runs in the southeastern United States.

After a good adventure in these parts, many people like to settle back with a glass of brandy, and so they go to the Carolina Distillery in Lenoir. Carolina Distillery is a proud producer of Carriage House Apple Brandy, Strawberry Infusion Apple Brandy, Apple Pie Mountain Shine and White Apple Brandy, all made on site from the freshest North Carolina apples. If you prefer a pint of beer, you can head directly over to Howard Brewing Company, brewing their own fresh craft beer in historic Lenoir.  The foothills also has fine wineries and delicious restaurants, with southern fare and many different local homemade dishes.

Also making Lenoir one of the best places to live in North Carolina is its cozy master planned communities and rustic mountain homes surrounded by scenic beauty. One of the top communities for families and retirees is distinctly known as The Coves Mountain River Club. This riverside community is an amazing place to live, and features some of the best Western North Carolina real estate. Residents at The Coves Mountain River Club enjoy 5 miles of frontage on the calm Johns River, where they watch the streaming water and have picnics in the sun. Rustic mountain homes here are exquisitely designed, with vast, amazing views of the Blue Ridge countryside.

If you like horseback riding, The Coves Mountain River Club has its own equestrian ranch with full-time boarding and 13 miles of private horse trails. Along the five miles of frontage on Johns River, you can kayak, canoe, float downstream in a tube, or fish for brown trout, small mouth bass, rainbow trout and catfish. At Isabel's Garden, residents can have their own plots for gardening, and grow flowers, fruits, vegetables, herbs and medicines. And at Evelyn's Vineyard, you can try your hand with friends at making homemade wines, with craftsman-style trellises along the riverside.

Lenoir is definitely one of the best places to live in North Carolina because of the mild four season weather, and is much cheaper than Asheville and nearby town of Blowing Rock. This is why Google chose it for its data center, as well as all the fun stuff their employees can enjoy.

If you are looking for Western North Carolina real estate, visit Lenoir, and check out The Coves Mountain River Club. Western North Carolina real estate here is affordable, and has all of the best aspects of Blue Ridge Mountain living in the quiet countryside.
