The average temperature December through February is in the mid 40’s. May through September, the average temperature ranges from the high 70’s to the low 80's. West Christian Academy is the highest rated private school in the area, with an average classroom size of 16 students. 

The nearby Brunswick Community College works with the Brunswick County School District to help create an easy transition for students from high school to college. Brunswick Community College has four programs; Arts & Sciences, Nursing & Allied Health, Developmental Education, and Professional & Technical. The larger University of North Carolina Wilmington offers more specialized programs at a university campus. It ranked in the top 50 of Most Competitive Public Colleges in the nation.

The Brunswick Medical Center is sponsored by Novant Health, an award-winning healthcare research company, and offers exceptional care in all fields. With 60 beds and 116 registered nurses, the hospital is able to provide quality care to its patients.
